For more than twenty years he has been releasing, to only marginal commercial and critical success, playful and transgressive albums on labels in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan. In his lyrics and his other writing he makes seemingly random use of decontextualized pieces of continental (mostly French) philosophy, and has built up a personal world he says is "dominated by values like diversity, orientalism, and a respect for otherness." He is also known in certain circles outside the U.S. as a producer. He is fascinated by identity, Japan, the avant-garde, time travel and sex. Live Momus shows are rare but when he does perform he often sings the crowd favourite 'maf' from the Stars Forever LP.
He wears a patch over his right eye because he lost the use of it after contracting acanthamoeba keratitis from a contact lens case washed with Greek tap water.

Quite a lot of fun
So won't you tell me
Where I can get some?
Maybe there's a baby I can dress
Comme des Garcons
Oh yes I want one
A really cute one
There's a Vivienne Westwood baby
Here on page sixteen
Of the new edition of my favourite magazine

Drink a glass of dry Martini
Lie down and go BAM BAM!'
Boys are just like babies
They do things that babies do
They go BAM BAM!
And bring the house down
I've got Johnson's bubble bath
I've got baby shampoo
But not the baby
The monkey won't do
With my pop star boyfriend
Sitting in our little flat
Hoping that my tummy will just suddenly go fat

Drink a glass of dry Martini
Lie down and go BAM BAM!
Est ce que ce petit bebe est a toi mademoiselle?
Parce que, si ce n'est pas a toi, je veux l'emporter chez moi.
Ah oui, j'aime tellement les enfants, je les aime vachement.

The lyrics of Momus's song Vogue Bambini seem to present a whimsical and satirical perspective on parenting and fashion. In the first verse, the singer expresses his desire to have a barrel full of monkeys, which he considers to be a lot of fun. He also mentions his aspiration to dress a baby in Comme des Garcons clothing, which reflects his fixation on high-end fashion and the desire to have a 'really cute' baby. The second verse alludes to the influence of the media, with the singer suggesting that reading Vogue Bambini and drinking dry Martini can have an impact on one's dreams and aspirations.
In the third verse, Momus portrays a comical and stereotypical view of men and babies, stating that "boys are just like babies," and they go "BAM BAM" and bring the house down. He then mentions that he has Johnson's bubble bath and baby shampoo, but not the baby, and concludes by referring to his desire to have a child with his "pop star boyfriend." In the final verse, he continues to make fun of the fashion-savvy culture and the obsession with children, with a whimsical dialogue that suggests stealing a baby from a stranger.
Overall, the song appears to mock the idea of parenthood as a fashion accessory and the obsession with materialism and consumerism. The lyrics suggest that people are more interested in the image of having a child than the reality of parenting. Furthermore, the song satirizes the fashion industry and the hyper-sexualization of children in advertising.
