Connecticut-born artist Ryan Monahan spent several years as the frontman for CT-based college-rock groups Eschellon, and later Shadowgraphs; the former group combining elements of jam/blues with indie rock, with the latter focusing on atmospherics, and dynamic post-rock song structures within an indie-pop framework. Both groups garnered modest amounts of press, and college radio-play, and Monahan compositions under both names would eventually earn film and television licenses including the Weinstein Film, Crossing Over, the Lifetime Network's Army Wives, Fox Network's Lie To Me, and ABC's No Ordinary Family.
After earning a degree in Music, where he immersed himself equally in classical and jazz, Monahan spent years living as a quasi-itinerant. It was during a brief trip to Iceland that Monahan would meet a blind world-traveler by the name of Tony Giles that would solidify his commitment to continue his work as a musician.
Shortly after settling in Athens, Monahan formed the group that would eventually be named Monahan along with longtime friend and musician Josh McMichael (Great Society). The two would also continue to form an early-era Beatles tribute band under the name Beatles For Sale. The formation of the group led to an unexpected relationship with Cindy Wilson of the B-52s, which spawned a new project under the name, Ola Moon. The band's first public appearance was a sold-out show for R.E.M.'s 30th birthday party at the Melting Point in Athens, GA under the name Cindy Wilson, Dana Downs (VieTNam), & The Debauchelors.
During his first two years in Athens, Monahan spent time in between working on music as a freelance music writer for Flagpole Magazine. As a producer and session player, he has worked with Brooklyn-based artist Natalie Riccio, as well as Athens artist Cassette88, later adding Eric Friar of DARC for additional mixing and production work.
Under the umbrella of Revolving Doors Media, Monahan organized several film screenings in Athens, GA including the Invisible Children Film Festival to help raise awareness about child soldiering in Northern Uganda, as well as a the Global Oneness Project, which covers a broad range of topics including food, ecology, and non-violent communication.
Her Eyes

She just likes to use her night light
When she gets paid
True religion gets it all if they fit right
She's a little bit manic, completely organic
Doesn't panic for the most part
She's old enough to know
To any chance that she gets
For home plate tickets to see the Mets
Like everybody, she's in over her head
Dreads Feds, Grateful Dead, and doesn't take meds
She's a Gemini-Capricorn
Thinks all men are addicted to ****
I don't agree with her half the time
But ****, I'm glad she's mine
Her eyes, that's where hope lies
That's where blue skies meet the sunrise
Her eyes, that's where I go
When I go home
She got the kinda strength
That every man wishes he had
She loved Michael Jackson
Up until he made 'Bad'
Tells me that she lived about a hundred lives
Scares me to death when she thinks and drives
Says cowboy hats make her look fat
And I'm so glad she's mine
Her eyes, that's where hope lies
That's where blue skies meet the sunrise
Her eyes, that's where I go
When I go home
She doesn't know the word 'Impossible'
Don't care where I've been
And doesn't care where we're goin' to
She takes me as I am and that ain't easy
She's beautiful, so beautiful
And sometimes I think she's truly crazy
And I love it
Her eyes, that's where hope lies
That's where blue skies always meet the sunrise
Her eyes, that's where I go
When I go home
Her eyes, that's where hope lies
That's where blue skies always meet the sunrise
Her eyes, that's where I go
When I go home
She's not afraid
She just likes to use her night light
The song “Her Eyes” by Pat Monahan is a celebration of an enigmatic, free-spirited woman who is unafraid to be herself. The song starts with Monahan describing how the woman is not afraid to use a nightlight and how she likes to stay safe in the dark. She is confident in her choices, and Monahan conveys just how independent she is in the lyrics, “She’s a little bit manic, completely organic/ Doesn’t panic for the most part/ She’s old enough to know/ And young enough not to say no/ To any chance that she gets.” Monahan admires her bravery and how she is willing to take on new experiences.
The woman in the song is depicted as someone who is forever adventurous, taking life by its horns. She is a unique individual with a personality that is full of contradictions. As an example in the song, it is mentioned that she's a Gemini-Capricorn but like everyone else, is also in over her head, and she doesn't follow the crowd. Monahan highlights how special she is in the line, “And sometimes I think she’s truly crazy/ And I love it.”
In summary, the woman in the song is someone who is fiercely independent, brave, and unafraid to be who she is rather than follow the crowd. Monahan adores her free-spirited nature and celebrates her quirks and how unique she is.
