Inspired by her experiences growing up between the Midwest, USA and Belém, Brazil, a city on the Amazon River, Mônica’s new album Brasilissima has touches of “samba and bossa, and even a small nod toward the very percussive axé music, but, along with partner Chad Alger, who shares playing, production and compositional credits, she’s created a hybrid that’s her own, and ridiculously addictive.”
Da Silva’s single Aí Então was “selected from tens of thousands of songs” by the pioneering label Putumayo World Music to be featured on their new compilation. Created to introduce new global music to broad audiences, Brazilian Beat chronicles the vibrant indie scene in Brazil and around the world.
Miami’s Acontece Magazine, recently called Mônica’s music the “future of Bossa Nova with the face of youth today”.

I want darkness you want light
I want time you want space
I go slow you want to race
Do you think we might agree
In this lifetime hopefully
Or do you think we stand a chance
And I could wade through fantasy but I don't need the trouble
No matter how we disagree I know you'll come around
You're never gonna live this down
I'm never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down in the end
I'm never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down in the end
I say wrong you say right
I want day well you want night
I want time you want space
I keep up you set the pace
Do you think we might agree
In this lifetime hopefully
Or do you think we stand a chance
You live in one reality and I live in another
And I could wade through fantasy but I don't need the trouble
No matter how we disagree I know you'll come around
You're never gonna live this down
I'm never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down in the end
I'm never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down in the end
Translucent
Life is lucid
You can see right through me now
Oh won't somebody save me
Or bring me back somehow
I'm never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down in the end
I'm never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down in the end
I'm never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down in the end
I'm never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna let you down
Let you down again
Monica da Silva's song "Reality" is a ballad exploring the fundamental differences in perspectives and opinions between two people who are incompatible in their views on life. The poetic lyrics of the song are centered around the conflicts between two people who have different approaches to the world around them. The song begins with "I see black you see white, I want darkness you want light," indicating the stark differences in perception between two people.
The theme of the song is about how difficult it can sometimes be to find common ground with someone, and how even in times of disagreement, we must strive to understand each other's points of view. The chorus of the song, "You live in one reality and I live in another, and I could wade through fantasy, but I don't need the trouble," suggests that while the two people are incompatible, they both acknowledge the differences between themselves while trying to avoid creating needless drama.
The song's closing lyrics, "I'm never gonna let you down, never gonna let you down, never gonna let you down in the end," signify a commitment to seeing one another through tough times and accepting our differences despite them. As a whole, "Reality" gives the listener an empathetic look into the complications that arise when two individuals have disconnected perceptions.
