Alive
Monk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Chasing away in a place where the light is all gone
Ride around it?s over now, the final seed isn?t old
Change me when I?m out of line
Bring your feelings to the floor this time, so we can finally end this

Aive for a Minute?

Wasting away in your hate, now you see that you?re wrong
White it out; just erase all the time that you owe
Leave things just where you found them
Safety feels just like a pain inside, I need to finally end this

If you smile keep it in mind that it feels as though we waited all the way
Let the sublime dissolve?

Crazy to stay with no mind no belief of where you belong
Ride around broken ground; stake a claim to the throne

Leave things just where you found them
Safety feels just like a pain inside

If you smile keep it in mind that it feels as though we waited all the way
Let the sublime dissolve?

If you smile keep it in mind that it feels as though we waited all the way
Let the sublime dissolve?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Monk's song "Alive" appear to be about personal growth, self-improvement, and overcoming negative beliefs or behaviors. The line "Chasing away in a place where the light is all gone" suggests that the singer has been lost in darkness, perhaps in a state of depression or hopelessness. However, they are ready to move on from that mindset, indicated by the line "Ride around it?s over now, the final seed isn't old." It seems the singer wants to leave the negative thoughts and tendencies behind and embrace a better version of themselves.

The next verse suggests that the singer has been holding onto anger and resentment ("Wasting away in your hate") but now realizes that it's not worth it ("now you see that you're wrong"). They want to let go of the negative emotions and move forward, indicated by the line "White it out; just erase all the time that you owe." The repeated line "Leave things just where you found them" feels like an acknowledgment of the past, but also a decision to leave it behind and not dwell on it.

The final verse seems to suggest the singer is embracing their individuality ("Crazy to stay with no mind no belief of where you belong") and wants to take control of their own life ("stake a claim to the throne"). The repeated line "Safety feels just like a pain inside" may indicate that the singer has been holding themselves back in an attempt to feel safe or secure, but now realizes that this is actually hindering their growth.

Overall, "Alive" is a powerful song about self-discovery and overcoming personal obstacles. The lyrics encourage the listener to let go of negativity, embrace their individuality, and move forward towards a brighter future.

I think we are looking at the monks spiritual form, and his body is struggling against the forces of death and decay. He's doing a great job

Maybe what we see in the two pictures are his spirit (ghost-like) after death but then the human body hasn't decayed .... amazing.

It’s amazing seeing monks do the things they do, especially Shaolin monks who takes mind over matter to the next level. What I previously thought of as impossible, next thing you know I’ll see them do it. Like hanging by the neck for a prolonged time, regulating their body temperature in freezing weather, sitting in boiling water, etc. All of which I’ve seen. But you won’t see me trying it of course. I like comfort.

I need to learn more about regulating body temperature in freezing weather. Handy skill to have 🥶

Hi Mikey! I had the same problem as you did with remembering people's faces and associating them with their names. There is this book called "How To Develop A Perfect Memory - Dominic OBrien" in his book , he explains the technique to overcome this problem [well if you think of it as a problem]. Try it and give your comments .... Cheers !!!

I was friends with this one kid in 1st grade for a few months until he moved back to Mexico, then in 7th grade he sat in front of me at a table I instantly recognized him so I said "Do I know you?" Then right after that he said his name and when he came back to WA and I instantly remembered him. Soon after that we became really good friends once again.
