I Don't Mind
Monk Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A desire to take hold and tear you apart
I've been itching for a minute to hear that sound
When the world goes quiet and the sun goes down
I don't wanna
I don't wanna
I don't wanna go
You keep talking
You keep talking slow
No matter how you sell it
I don't wanna hear it
I hoped by now you know
I don't wanna
I don't wanna go
I know you're thinking I should let it be and leave it a lone
Get my head out the clouds and go on home
I hear your remarks
But straight from the start
You ain't the first and you won't be the last
I don't wanna
I don't wanna
I don't wanna go
You keep talking
You keep talking
You keep talking slow
No matter how you sell it
I don't wanna hear it
I hoped by now you know
I don't wanna
I don't wanna go
You see the world through your eyes I see through my own
Got the keys to a kingdom but that ain't my home
Speaking thinking I just want to sit on the thrown
I just wanna do what I want
I don't wanna
I don't wanna
I don't wanna go
You keep talking
You keep talking
You keep talking slow
No matter how you sell it
I don't wanna hear it
I hoped by now you know
That I don't wanna
I don't wanna go
No no no no no
In "I Don't Mind" by Moses Sumney, the singer starts off by describing themselves as someone who was "born with a fire burning in [their] heart." This fire is interpreted as a burning passion, a force that may be overwhelming and uncontrollable. The singer then moves on to express their desire to hear a sound when everything around them turns quiet. This could be interpreted as the singer yearning for a moment of peace in the chaos of everyday life. The sounds of silence could eliminate the distractions and give the singer a chance to hear their deepest thoughts and emotions.
The chorus of the song repeats the lines "I don't wanna go" and "You keep talking slow" several times. The singer expresses unwillingness to participate in conversations where they don't feel heard. The repetition of these lines underlines the frustration of the singer when they are constantly talking past someone who is not listening. The singer also doesn't want to be sold on someone else's opinions, thoughts or preferences. They already know what they want and won't tolerate when other people try to impose their views.
In the third verse, the singer makes it clear they have their own perspective on the world. They imply a sense of detachment from the world, stating that they "see the world through [their] own eyes" and that they "got the keys to a kingdom but that ain't [their] home." The lines "I just wanna do what I want" could be interpreted as a declaration of independence, a refusal to be tied down by anyone else's expectations. The song ultimately is about self-acceptance and standing up for what you believe in- fighting against the pressures of others trying to sell you someone else's ideas of what is right or wrong.

This is a classic 'Among Us' blunder.
(meeting starts)
*BLUE*: Green did it.
*GREEN*: I didn't do it; I'm nowhere near Navigation.

(Monk determines that the suicide was staged; he meets someone who knows the victim.)
SUSPECT: She committed suicide, didn't she?
A rookie mistake.

I love how Stottlemeyer was never portrayed as stupid. This isn't the first time that he had a gut feeling or noticed something was off about the case, and only then brought in Monk. He was a genuinely good detective, just sometimes overshadowed by the freakishly skilled Monk.
@sanddagger36
You are right. Because of the few famous episodes where Monk or Natalie is related to the case somehow it often gets over looked but the most common way any of the cases start is that the captain brings in Monk of his own choice.
@leandroc76
He also loved to say "It puts the lotion on the skin." I guess I'm all I'm saying is... choose your heroes.
@thomasparkin259
It makes sense, you don't put your super detective on cases you're confident the average detective will solve but the boss has to be clever enough to tell an average from a Monk case.
@switchbox239
EXACTLY!

One of my favorite quotes is from this episode:
Oh, yes. Oh, yes. I've caught a lot of killers. Some killers are very smart. And some are very powerful. Some are even famous. They don't think they will ever be caught. But in the end, they, they're always caught. And I'll tell you why. Because the police can make mistakes. I make mistakes all the time. But see, a killer has to be perfect. And nobody's perfect.
Itās such a good threat
@aryst0krat
Fittingly, reminds me of a Columbo line! I don't have the quote verbatim but he basically says the police practice constantly, but a killer generally only has one shot to get it right.

This was a good episode. I always appreciated how Stottelmayer was a very good detective. Not as good as Monk (except the Vegas episode) but he was one of my favorite TV cops.
@jamegumb7298
He is my fave too. Just something about the guy. It reminds me of me.
@superchroma
I'm awestruck at how good a detective he was.
