Wrong
Monk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We agree on the weather
Anything else Is a disaster
I can’t say the words I want to say
I try to keep us together
Giving you all the right answers
It doesn’t matter what I say
It always seems like I say something wrong
We both have our agendas
And everything offends us
I strive to make you feel okay
I try to keep us together
Giving you all the right answers
It doesn’t matter what I say
It always seems like I say something wrong
I try to keep us together
Giving you all the right answers

It doesn’t matter what I say
It always seems like I say something wrong

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Monk's song "Wrong" express the difficulties in communication and connection between two people. The first two lines are a play on the phrase "small talk about the weather," setting the stage for the idea that the only thing the two of them can agree on is a topic that has no real significance. The following lines delve into the frustration of trying to communicate correctly, with one person constantly feeling like they are saying the wrong thing. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the cycle of failed communication and the desperate attempt to keep a relationship together in spite of it.

The lines "We both have our agendas / And everything offends us" suggest that both people are carrying emotional baggage that makes it difficult to have a productive conversation. The singer, in particular, is trying to say the right thing to make the other person happy but continually falls short, leading to a feeling of failure and inadequacy. The final repetition of the chorus drives home the message that no matter how hard they try, they can't seem to get it right.

Overall, "Wrong" is a poignant reflection on the difficulties of communication and the struggle to maintain a relationship even when it feels like everything is going wrong.

I've never seen this one. Monk's accuracy among TV detectives is like 99% while the others are like 65%. I like seeing Monk wrong a few times because it shows how genius he is when he is right and how he uses facts. While if he was right 100% of the time he would be a psychic.

The only reason why he was wrong was because he couldn't concentrate because of the garbage strike

@potsdam28 I think I have seen that episode. Isn't that in Season 1 where a pilot buried her wife in a fresh cement and hooked up with her twin sister?
