I can't believe it. For most people, this game brings back childhood memories. I, on the other hand, didn't the opporunity to play it until the release of Special Edition... and yet still, when I now remember it, it's so special, it really feels as a childhood memory and brings chills down my spine, for how awesome it was.

I know that feeling. I wish point and click games came back. Companies don't look at nostalgia and what people want. Heartstone was a tiny game made by a tiny group for fun. If companies tried smaller themed games with more personal flare then they could easily market and ship good quality games with less need for graphical or systematic standards

Great game. I had been wanting to play it for years and finally did when the remake came out. The remake of MI2 is a day 1 purchase for me.

This music, to me, is just plain FUN. I hear this music and I think of a good time. It feels like adventure, it feels like a funny moment and it feels uplifting. It's almost as if no-one who listens to it could be depressed, it certainly picks me up when I think of it. Having been introduced at the start of the series I am glad they never changed it. The series just wouldn't be the same without it.

"Monkey Island" is one of those games where the soundtrack to the original was so good yet so primitive, that if you enhanced it with actual instruments, it would sound just as good. I can't think of other games like that.

Another comment mentioned that he never played this game but feels nostalgic. Same. It sounds so full adventure and brings out old child desires to go on adventures. It warms my heart but brings a hint a sadness because I don't think like that anymore.

A lot more similarities ended up in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie from the original MI script :) For instance, Will Turner's story starts by floating on the sea unable to remember his past, and falling in love with the governors daughter who get's kidnapped by ghost pirates and so on. Great movies and even greater game serie!

Yeah i agree this remake is awesome. Just love the "hint" function they added, wish they had that in all those old games. I remember first time i played it and complete the game, i barely even knew english back then. Trial and error can get you a long way.

I just finished the game and have to agree the menu control was terable. especially the bit were you have to swap the grog into the mugs. that was a pain. apart from that it was so much fun. i loved it

The creators got a lot of inspiration from the Disney ride Pirates of the Caribbean, which can be show from several eastereggs in the series, such as the ticket to the Disney park in Monkey 2, when Le Chuck chases you in the underground lair.

I love the Special Edition in some ways of course, the first was that I finally beat this game (I know I know, but it was hard as hell and my PC didn't run the old version anymore :P), and the soundtrack, there's that feeling of a amazing adventure starting and still sound like the original but with a nice extra touch, the guys who made the SE really did a well job "translating" the game, this is how you make a remake. :D

Hmm... Ya know, despite this version of the theme song's objectively better quality, I can't help but feel slightly underwhelmed by it. It's obviously an extremely amazing cover, but I expect no less from this song! It's just that I honestly feel chills whenever I hear the original IBM speaker version. It's not even from nostalgia... I'm 20 and playing this game for the first time (The EGA DOS version emulated on Internet Archive). I think it has more to do with the fact that even creating this song with a simple 1 voice, beeping, crunchy, cpu hogging sound format was an impressive feat. The multi-voice illusion that the developers pulled off is unbelievably incredible (and catchy). The fact that it actually sounds good today is just astonishing to me, seeing as most sounds those speakers make are kinda painful... I'm pretty sure that one has to desperately go out of their way to make this song bad. xD

Be not mistaken though, I can tell from the song alone that this is a GREAT remake. The song's as good as ever, it just has a different direction going for it. The graphics are undoubtedly the best here, and the game definitely appears to have kept the overall charm of the originals.

@SammEater Fun fact: the "old graphics" option is based on the VGA version of the game. This is the only other version of the game to have some form of voice acting, although it was only made available to those who were lucky enough to own a Roland MT-32. Unfortunately, this was a super expensive, high-end, proper music device used for commercially made music.

@SammEater I did a bit more research, and it unfortunately turns out that it's just a really well made fan-made patch for the VGA version of the game on actual hardware. So, it still requires all of the equipment mentioned earlier (including a physical copy of the game and a real Roland MT-32), but it wasn't an offical feature. I feel bad now, I didn't mean to spread any kind of misinformation... The patch is so well-made (and obscure) that it had me fooled. I guess that it''s still another version of the game with voice acting though. It's also hands-down the most expensive (and luxurious) way to play this game today.

I think this is quite nice, though I wish they didn't do all the backing with just marimbas and xylophones. The original also had some organs, and I think also steel drums. It would've been nice if they went for a sound more like that of the arrangement used in Tales of Monkey Island.

Fun fact, the special edition of this game was the first version I ever played, the reason being I tried to get a copy of the original DOS version off ebay around 2004 and got conned out of my money, sent an incomplete version that didn't work at all.

did yall know PotC was originally supossed to be a Monkey Island movie before it was changed? Theres alot of Monkey Island references in the movie like the undead crew in the first one, the Voodoo priestess from the end of the second one. idk i've been a big fan of the monkey island series since i was in the single digits. Its what got me into gaming i guess besides the Jumpstart games i played when i was 5-6. I'm new to the whole fanbase so idk if yall know that or not. lol

I know that. But I don't see why they can't take over and do a remake of The Curse of Monkey Island and Escape from Monkey Island. LucasArts was disbanded, so TellTale can't get sued for doing it.

Well, Idk, I guess Disney holds the copyrights to the games LucasArts made, so TellTale would need to ask permission from Disney to do that, and TellTale are extremely busy atm, they're working on what, 4-5 different games atm? They even had to push the 2nd episode of "The Wolf Among Us" 2 months because they're so damn busy atm, so even if they had plans for that, we wouldn't see see it in the near future sadly :/
