1. Monkey Trick (U.S. 2010-Present)
Monkey Trick is an American Rock band that formed in early-2010 and released their debut album Songs for the Lost in late-2010. The album has received critical acclaim and has been called "a leader in the neo-grunge movement" by various periodicals. Similar to grunge, Monkey Trick's lyrics talk deal with social awareness. However, their music stems from classic rock.
The lyrics on the debut album Songs for the Lost are deep and tell situational stories, which compliment and add to the melodic rock music. There are an assortment of varieties of musical genres on this album. A listener will hear everything from grunge, to hard-rock, to alternative, to punk, to classic rock and even a bit of folk. The lyrics are what makes this album shine, however. The songs are about life and common struggles that we all face. In many of the lyrical situations laid out, the songs deal with the wrong turns on life’s road and how one can find their way back. Most likely that’s why the band chose Songs for the Lost as the album title.

Scars
Monkey Trick Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Mary grew up close to her mom, her mom died
Mary turned to drugs when she was 16,
She had an addictive personality
With time, life turned darker and darker...
She met Dave when she was 18
He was using her for her body
Dave quickly left them absentee
With time, life turned harder and harder...
At night, she'd cry..
Wondering why...
Life...was so hard.
A voice whispered....
"Please heal her scars"...
Mary turned 19, she had her baby
It pushed a swift change in personality
Mary got a job working 7 to 5
She put in hours to buy them time
With time, life grew clearer and clearer...
At night, she'd cry...
Wondering why...
Life...was so hard.
A voice whispered...
"Please heal her scars".
By the time Mary turned 40,
She was happily married
To a man who believed in the word family
They gave their children everything...
With time, life grew easier and easier...
At night, she'd cry...
Wondering why...
Life was so hard...
For those who could not heal their scars.
At night, she lie...
Wondering why...
Life could be so hard...
Whispering... Whispering... Whispering...
"Please,.. please heal,... please heal... their scars, their scars."
The song "Scars" by Monkey Tricks tells the story of Mary's life and the struggles she faces. The opening lines introduce Mary as a young woman whose mother has passed away, causing her to turn to drugs at the age of 16. The lyrics suggest she had an addictive personality, and as time goes on, her life gets darker and more challenging.
When Mary turns 18, she meets Dave. However, their relationship is toxic, as he uses her for her body and leaves as soon as she tells him about their pregnancy. The song captures Mary's feelings of despair and the difficulty she goes through in raising her child alone.
As Mary grows older, she takes on a job and works long hours to provide for her family. She eventually finds love and marries, giving her children everything she never had. However, the song's closing line acknowledges that not everyone can heal their scars, reflecting on Mary's past experiences.
The lyrics of "Scars" are deep and emotive, touching on themes of loss, addiction, love, and family. The song reminds us of the importance of resilience, determination, and the ability to heal from life's scars.
