Dude this is a world famous band, without the big advertisement. They have loyal fans, and people that actually are interested in music will find and like them, or found and liked them, or refound them. I think that is a seldom kind of recognition especially in todays world.

How great it was to live through the early and mid-90's, to hear the paradigm shift in popular music live as it happened. Hearing it today is great, but just cannot capture the excitement of experiencing it when it was new and fresh, for the first time.

Younger people today not only can't imagine how lucky we were to have enjoyed it firsthand, but are now today stuck living in a complete wasteland, devoid of talent and creativity. Instead of creating good music, today's 'artists' rely off ridiculous antics gossiped about in social media.

I agree, that feeling when everything chnages with just one song is something to live through. Ive been waiting 20 years for something to come along and just destroy everyone again with a new take, but it hasnt happened yet. But it will. It always does.

@tempest411 you have no idea what modern music is like, for starters there's more variety now than ever, and what you hear on the radio isn't what most people listen to anymore. Young people listen to all sorts of creative music, but you don't see it because you're not in those circles and you're not looking for it.

The funny thing is, monster magnet is still releasing music, as are bands like foo fighters and probably half of the bands you listened to in the 90s, so there's no wasteland.

@aceman0000099 Yes, I know a lot of those bands are still chugging along, but they're not putting out anything that sounds very interesting. It all sounds so generic and bland. It IS a wasteland. Up until a couple years ago I kept a part time position at an auto parts store, where I worked with a bunch of people in their early 20s and I gotta say I was surprised how much older stuff they listened to relative to when I was their age. It was weird how this one 19 year old listened to nothing but 80s top 40, which he said was referred to as 'freestyle' these days. And stranger still, I stopped at a Starbuck's on my way home from my FT job and found a group of about ten 16-18 year olds all singing, enthusiastically, to Loverboy's 1981 'hit' “Working for the Weekend”. They were even playing it on a period-looking ghetto blaster. That was very Twilight-Zone like...Not one of my favorites from that time period for sure, but I take it as an indication that today's stuff really, really sucks, even according to them.

I'm 52 now so was in my 20's through the 90's and they were indeed great times, very special but i do try not to be judgemental re today's music for many of the reasons you stated, otherwise i sound exactly like my dad's generation did when I was young criticising all new music

Monster Magnet has a direct line to my guts. Their music just jives with me. Their style is sort of a "tongue in cheek" satirical parody of 90's and early 2000's of pop-culture; As a bitter 30-something, this tickles me. The musical style is quite fun, too. Relatively "heavy" (without getting in to "metal" or "core" genres) and high energy and minimal swearing while also exploring uncommon topics for songs. "Baby Gotterdamerung" is one of my favourite tracks, of theirs. The whole of Powertrip gets me moving, actually. It is uncommon for a band, like this, to hold my attention as much as Monster Magnet has.

I remember thinking, when I first listened to them; "These guys seem pretty 'out-there' (based entirely on the band and song names) and I bet they are just going to be another theoryofanicklefault (given the era)" But then I started up the album and was blown away. There is not a single track, on Powertrip, that doesn't have an an effect on me.

one of the best bands of the 90's and early 2000's. I love there music. I have recently heard they are still going strong, but they seemed to have all but fallen off the radar since their Power Trip album. They haven't made the charts in Canada since then, but obviously they are doing well elsewhere or they wouldn't still be around. Wish my fellow Canadians would wake up and realize these guys aren't just one hit wonders.

I just want to throw it out there that those of us in middle school in the mid 90's who listened to their older cousins Dopes to Infinity album have a deep appreciation for all the excess and glamor that is Dave Wyndorf and Monster Magnet. This is one heavy tune...Love it so much. I love the record cover. I remember cranking this in my jeep. I never had a top on it and would freeze my ass off. Stocking cap on 24/7. Seats wet all the time. Mold growing on the exterior. I just loved this record and this song is so great.

I just turned 18 in June 1995 when this first came out, or I first heard it.
I tripped out!
Coolest song I had heard in min.
Like it was written for me.
Just hit my music tastes DEAD ON!

Funny story this music always reminds me of. I was tripping on mushrooms in my friends penthouse apartment, he was playing this album on his wicked stereo, just cranked. I walked into one of the bedrooms he had converted into a sitting room, well there was a little black and white TV with a four inch screen on a glass coffee table, me absolutely flying on boomers saw the loc-nar from the Heavy Metal movie, a whitish blue sphere just hovering in space, blown away, I reached out to touch it, as I did so I fell backwards onto a loveseat, but the cushions were removed, so my brain was expecting to land on the couch, but as I flew far deeper than expected, it launched my mind into another dimension. That was my introduction to Monster Magnet, and I'll never forget it.
