David Pagmar was raised in Stockholm, Sweden. He enjoys "movies from the fifties, music from the sixties and comic books from the seventies". Taken from the About Me section of his blog (http://www.monttmardie.blogspot.com/), "While the other kids were searching for guns and ammo, I read the Bible. I loved boats and roller coasters. On the day I turned eight my mom bought me a guitar. I kept it in a closet and only took it out when I was alone." Montt has become increasingly popular in his native Sweden, as well as in many other European countries. His favorite Beatle is John Lennon.
His debut release was the Single/EP Highschool Drama, released on October 14, 2005. This was shortly followed by his debut full-length album Drama, released on October 7, 2005. One single was spawned from Drama, New York, released on April 20, 2006. He then released an EP entitled Science on May 18, 2006. Who would later reuse some of the tracks on Science for his second full-length album, Clocks/Pretender, released on April 18, 2007.
Modesty Blaise
Montt Mardié Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The young lady's name minister is Modesty Blaise
Modesty Blaise, Modesty Blaise, Modesty Blaise...
We must have Modesty Blaise)
When I was very confident back in '98
All those books from my science class
Well they all had to wait
Yeah I was falling in love you see
in a violent pace
Calling her name, Modesty Blaise
I didn't care about friends then
But I was at a TV
Most of all I had heard of her
and on the silver screen
I could watch her running
I fallow her chase
Took on every great danger
I just wispered her name
So she would stay, Modesty Blaise
Without trace
Where did you go, Modesty Blaise
I was spending my evenings
staring at her face
Thinking no I would never
Let her love go to waste
All of her way, Modesty Blaise
Modesty Blaise
Modesty Blaise
(I thought you'd be pleased.
After Paris?
We weren't on the same side.)
The lyrics to Montt Mardié's song "Modesty Blaise" tell the story of the singer's infatuation with the character of Modesty Blaise. He first heard of her through books and TV shows, and was quickly drawn to her adventurous spirit and fearless nature. He fell in love with her through the stories he consumed, and found himself spending his evenings staring at her face, vowing not to let her love go to waste. The singer's fixation with Modesty Blaise is evident in the repetition of her name throughout the song, as if he's trying to conjure her up through the power of his words.
However, there seems to be an underlying sadness to the song as well. The line "Where did you go, Modesty Blaise" suggests that the singer has lost touch with the character he so admired, perhaps reflecting a deeper sense of loss or disillusionment. The final line, "We weren't on the same side," also adds an element of conflict or tension to the story. It's unclear who is speaking, but it implies that there was some kind of betrayal or misunderstanding between the singer and Modesty Blaise.
