She drives it in the ground
She was a runaway at just thirteen
The toughest thing I seen
She was sick of home, sick of school
Sick of mom and daddy too
Picked up a trade, now she's street
She knows just what to do
Hot house baby
Hot house baby
Romeo & South Side Jake
Don't get enough to take
They got a lean, hungerridden face
An outright mental case
She's hanging out with those mugs
She's talking like a thug
Mean and kind at different spells
A teenage jezebel
Hot house baby
Hot house baby
Somebody help me my dreams
They been tearing at the seams
Restless today
And I need her right away
Hot house baby
Hot house baby
The song "Hot House Baby" by Moon Martin tells the story of a tough and rebellious teenaged girl who ran away from home at the age of 13. She was sick of her life and her family and picked up different trades to survive. Now she's a street-smart girl who knows what to do to survive. She's hanging out with some bad company, like Romeo and South Side Jake, and she speaks like a thug. She is a teenage jezebel who is mean and kind at different times.
The singer is asking for help because his dreams are tearing at the seams, and he needs her right away. It seems like she is his escape from reality, and he needs her to be there for him. The chorus emphasizes her beauty and toughness, calling her a "Hot House Baby." This term could refer to a girl who grew up too fast, was forced to mature too quickly, and had to live in the hot houses of poverty and danger that were part of her life. The song is a tribute to a girl who knows how to survive, no matter how tough things get.
