Disturbed Suburbia
Moon Walker Lyrics

Alright

You never will go hungry
You'll never go astray
You're never going anywhere
So just pack it in and stay
We'll pay off the best college
And we'll get you the best degree
When you learn to listen
You'll play a little cog in a big machine

With all your fears kept behind a wall
A white picket fence
We'll make your world feel small
So we can keep you there for a lifetime

Whoo
Where you been?
Come on

We all get off work early
But still come home so late
We chalk up our contributions to how much we're being paid
We never have to struggle
But still need someone to blame
We'll always need more, more, more, more
No matter who we gotta take it from

But with all your fears kept behind a wall
A white picket fence
We'll make your world feel small
So, we can keep you scared for a lifetime

Whoo

You feel that?

Welcome to suburbia
Where all the children play
With pitchforks and on picket fences
Meant to keep the filth away
Welcome to your neighborhood
Where everyone's the same
We've got the same complexion
Familiar last names

Welcome to suburbia
Where all the children play
With pitchforks and on picket fences
Meant to keep the filth away
I said welcome to your neighborhood
Where everyone's the same
We've got the same complexion
Familiar last names
They've all got more than what they need
But still, they gotta take more, more, more, more

With all your fears kept behind a wall
A white picket fence
We'll make your world feel small
So, we can keep you scared for a lifetime

Well, keep running
Whoo
Uh-huh, uh-huh
Oh, yeah
You wanna get moving?
This is your time
Come on, ride up
Let's go
Whoo hoo hoo hoo
Step into the groove
Whoo
Uh-huh, uh-huh
Show us what you got, come on

Overall Meaning

"Disturbed Suburbia" written by Moon Walker speaks about the unsettling truth behind a seemingly perfect life in the suburbs, the monotonous routine of working long hours just to come back to a white picket fenced existence. The song talks about that existence being mediocre and threatening, by stifling the person's ambition and making them complacent, holding them captive with a lifetime of fear. The first verse talks about how the parents will provide for their children by getting them an education and buying what they want, but only within the confines of the neighborhood. Moon Walker points out the vicious cycle of always needing more, blaming others for shortcomings, but never feeling satisfied or fulfilled.

The second verse highlights how the routine never changes, people go to work early and come back late, the only thing they have is their house and the white picket fence surrounding it. The songwriter talks about why people need to keep more and more, they are scared of losing what they have. The chorus of the song repeatedly talks about how the town's people build literal fences to keep themselves safe from the outside world. They keep themselves in a bubble where everything is too controlled, making it impossible to learn and grow.

The bridge of the song motivates the listener to break out of that mundane existence and join the movement. The singer encourages the listener to step out of their comfort zone, let go of their fears, and be free to explore what the world has to offer. Moon Walker wants them to let go of their fears and join the groove that they are creating.

A rock song with a serious groove and a certain casual attitude. The energetic and charismatic male vocal interpretation adds a lot of spirit to this hyper accessible track. The catchy chorus combined with the highly melodic aspect of this joyfully boisterous track will make your day!
