Doors Closing
Moonchild Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No no you can't come and go as you please
You think my love is an open door
Always coming 'round here stealing my peace
You think my love is an open door
Keep it up baby, I'm taking away your keys
You think my love is an open door
One day he's gonna ask you to leave
In Moonchild's song "Doors Closing," the lyrics appear to be directed towards someone who believes that they can come and go as they please in a particular relationship, presumably a romantic one. The singer suggests that the person is mistaken and that their love is not an open door. The repetition of this line reinforces the idea that the person is not truly welcomed at all times. The second line describes this person as always coming around and stealing the singer's peace, suggesting that their actions are not entirely appreciated.
The third line introduces the idea that the singer is taking control of the situation. By taking away the other person's keys, they are demonstrating their authority and making it clear that the person cannot simply come and go as they please. The fourth and final line takes this idea a step further, suggesting that the person's behavior may lead to them being asked to leave someday. It's unclear whether this is a reference to the relationship ending or simply a warning that the person needs to change their behavior.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of frustration with someone who is not respecting boundaries in a relationship. The repetition of the line "You think my love is an open door" serves to emphasize that this is a mistaken belief and that the singer is not willing to put up with it for much longer.
