1) Moose were a British indie rock band who formed in London in 1990. While tagged as the original shoegazer band, and certainly their earliest singles were, they evolved into something distinctly their own - a woozy, lush and orchestral brand of pop.
Moose released two EPs on Hut Records. Within the next few years the band would release two more full-length albums on Play It Again Sam. Despite a strong critical response, Moose’s albums continued to sell few copies. Following the release of their third album, Live a Little Love a Lot, Moose took an extended break from music only to return five years later with the release of High Ball Me! in 2000. The band broke up soon after.
2) Moose (US) is an incredibly lo-fi noise rock band from Lawndale, CA. Download the demo at: http://mooseband.bandcamp.com/

Love on the Dole
Moose Lyrics

Going to chase our shadows through the rain
Love on the dole, true your soul
Curses come to frost above the way
I cannot wave that train away and smile
Cause it didn't travel farther than 20 miles
Love on the dole, true your soul
When daylight glows
Don't say that I'm sold
Never knew about your mother's death
It's cool she put a price upon my head
Never again, to true my soul
It never makes me happy that you wept
When daylight glows
Don't say that I'm sold
The song "Love on the Dole" by Moose is a melancholic song that explores themes of love, loss, and poverty. The opening lines "I am now, come dancing in, Going to chase our shadows through the rain" sets the tone of the song, indicating that the singer is hopeful despite being in tough situations. The title "Love on the dole" implies that one of the characters is on government welfare, which is further reinforced by the lines "Perfect let you see me single file." The singer is probably describing his/her struggle to make ends meet and maintain a sense of dignity and pride while being dependent on the state for survival.
The song's chorus "When daylight glows, Don't say that I'm sold" is a poetic way of expressing the singer's frustration with being perceived as a commodity or an object. The line "Curses come to frost above the way" describes the harsh reality of living in poverty, where unfortunate events are a regular occurrence. The line "Never knew about your mother's death, It's cool she put a price upon my head, Never again, to true my soul" reveals that the singer has been betrayed by someone he/she trusted. This betrayal has caused immense pain and exposed the singer to danger, perhaps even violence.
Overall, the song is a poignant depiction of the struggles that people living in poverty face. The lyrics convey a sense of hopelessness and despair, which are common emotions for those who have no way out of their difficult circumstances.
