Brazilian singer Gal Costa, another pillar of Brazilian popular music, is Moreno Veloso's godmother. Additionally, many of the greats of the Brazilian music scene visited the Veloso household frequently and, therefore, Moreno Veloso grew up surrounded by musicians and much music. This rich environment had a great impact in Moreno Veloso's musical development.
Veloso studied physics at a university but turned instead to musici and singing. In 2000 Moreno Veloso recorded his first album, Máquina de Escrever Música (English: Music Typewriter) but his songwriting debut was much earlier in 1982 with Um Canto de Afoxé para o Bloco Do Ile, a clear reference to African mythology. The Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomblé, full of rithms and colors, predominant in his native city of São Salvador da Bahia must have had a remarcable impact on his natural talent while he was growing up.
Moreno Veloso's work has been well received far and wide. For example, American singer and band leader Chrissie Hynde, a longtime resident of the city of London, England, has expressed great admiration for his work and even has traveled and performed with him throughout Brazil right after the turn of the millennium. One of Moreno Veloso's music groups was called Moreno Veloso + 2 (composed of Moreno Veloso, Alexandre Kassin and Domênico Lancelotti).

Como as folhas dormem, como as folhas comem
Como as folhas, folhas comem e dormem
Insetos dormem e comem folhas
Suponho a estranha forma de amizade entre insetos e plantas
Insetos que cantam, riem e plantam pra comer
In Moreno Veloso's song "Das Partes", the lyrics explore the intricate relationship between various elements of nature. The opening line, "Como as partes movem-se em garras" (How the parts move in claws), can be interpreted as a metaphor for the interdependent and often challenging dynamics that exist within nature. It suggests that different elements, like plants and insects, have a symbiotic relationship where they both benefit and rely on each other, even if their interactions may sometimes be intense or fierce.
The next lines, "Como as folhas dormem, como as folhas comem" (How the leaves sleep, how the leaves eat), bring attention to the life cycle of leaves. Leaves exhibit characteristics of rest and nourishment, drawing a parallel between their behavior and that of insects. The imagery of leaves both sleeping and eating emphasizes the interconnectedness of all living organisms and highlights the harmony that exists in nature.
Continuing with the theme of harmony, the lyrics mention the "estranha forma de amizade entre insetos e plantas" (strange form of friendship between insects and plants). This line explores the fascinating and delicate relationship between insects and plants, where insects pollinate plants, aiding in their reproduction, while also relying on plants for sustenance. The concept of insects singing, laughing, and planting to eat adds a touch of whimsy, emphasizing the beauty and wonder that can be found in the natural world.
