Damage's lineup with 85' former Sepher Jezirah vocalist, replacing the second guitarist, the band changed their name to "Morgana Lefay" before releasing a self-financed album named "Symphony Of The Damned" in 1989 with glowing reviews and responses. The second release dubbed "Rumours Of Rain" in 1991 was a demo tape of convincing quality, which got them a contract at the Black Mark label, in 1993 releasing "Knowing Just As I" album , echoing worldwide, followed by a european tour. After another second guitarist replacement, a third 1995 "Sanctified" album is released. Taking a festival like European tour with, Tad Morose, Memento Mori & Cemetery, and another one with Gamma Ray later that year. Releasing 1996 "Maleficium" & 1997 compilation "Fata Morgana", changing their name to Lefay for legal reasons concerning a dispute with the label; signing for Noise Records and releasing the 1998 "The Seventh Seal" & 1999/2000 concept "...---..."(SOS) albums.
Ending the contract with Noise Records, followed by long pause, made the band to reactivate themselves, taking the full name "Morgana Lefay" , returning to the former label Black Mark and releasing the 2005 album "Grand Materia", followed by 2007 "Aberrations Of The Mind".
Often neglected for their mid to slow paced brooding heavy metal, yet a not unjustified approach to songwriting in the same power/heavy metal genre of cliche's. Everything about this band puts them ahead of their time, symphony involved approach in the early days when it wasn't a trend driven addition to the already high quality music, especially the trash tinged riffs, savoring an abandoned genre and not crossing it but rather blending & and putting it to good use again.Although having a musical identity of their own, they don't get avoided by the genre-labeling scientists, Charles Rytkönen's dramatic and sometimes haunting vocals get often compared to Jon Oliva's but in a positive way.
Symphony Of The Damned
Morgana Lefay Lyrics

Madness is chanting my name
Thousand souls erratic in life
Chained in no place berawed their heaven
Out of tune noises pulsating my mind
A fatal opera inferno of sounds
My conscience fading, fading
Nowhere in time
Shadeless faces souls with no name
Standing hypnotized going insane
Hearing helplessly
Listen...
To the symphony of the damned
I search for light that I can't find
I search for shadows in this life behind
From south of heaven they are calling me
Through this hysterical psychic custody
I feel hands of compact nothing
Tighten its grip on me
Symphony of the damned
Corridors blindly, I can see them
Flashing by in the shadows of my conscience
There is a voice calling for my soul
In my mind the senses overflowing
To a peak past of what is human
As a god I spread my wings I can fly
I am alive, I got the fire, got the rage
Like a giant bird of prey, I am the night
I am the dark, I am the raven, I am the one
That you would call descended from the sky
Like tears lost in the rain that music fades...
I am sweeping over paradise
Where this god rules in disguise
Further on to a higher place
Where I'm promised to be born again
Like tears lost in the rain that music fades...
That symphony of the damned
The lyrics of Morgana Lefay's song "Symphony of the Damned" describe the experience of the singer between two worlds, a state of madness where the line between reality and delusion is blurred. In this no man's land that exists between heaven and hell, he encounters the tortured souls of those who never found their place in the afterlife. The singer hears a symphony of out-of-tune noises, which pulsate in his mind like an inferno of sounds. He feels his conscience fading away as he becomes lost in the past, present, and future. The souls around him are shadeless and nameless, hypnotized and chanting, standing helplessly as they listen to the symphony of the damned.
The lyrics continue to speak of the singer's search for light and shadows, hints of a hope for escape from this limbo. The voices he hears are calling him from the south of heaven, through the psychic custody of madness. The singer then has a transcendental experience, beyond human senses as he feels his spirit lift and even spread its wings like a god. He becomes a giant bird of prey or the dark raven, swept away to a higher place to be born again.
Overall, the lyrics of "Symphony of the Damned" paint a vivid picture of a limbo state and the pain of being stuck there. It's a fascinating commentary on what happens in between worlds and serves as the perfect medium for Morgana Lefay's musical style.
