Where Is the Light
Moriarty Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I dig in the ground and I fall very deep
Where is the light
Where is the light
Where is the light
Won't you turn on the light
My bed is a bath
And my bath is a boat
My mother is a cat
And my father is a goat
Don't be afraid
We'll hide in the shade
Don't be afraid, there's still room in the bed cage
Help me to find what I am looking for
What I am looking for I am not yet sure
Where is the light
Oh where is the light
Where is the light
Won't you turn on the light
Please the lights
The lyrics of Moriarty's song 'Where Is the Light' capture a dreamlike state where the boundary between reality and imagination is blurred. The first two lines suggest the singer is falling asleep and perhaps dreaming, delving into the subconscious mind. The line "Where is the light" is repeated as a refrain throughout the song, acting as a plea for someone to turn on the light and bring clarity and visibility to the confusing state of mind the singer is experiencing.
The second verse continues with surreal descriptions of the singer's surroundings, such as their bed being a bath and their mother being a cat. The line "there's still room in the bed cage" further emphasizes the theme of confinement and being trapped within one's own mind. The chorus is repeated once more, heightening the sense of desperation and yearning for clarity.
The final verse adds a layer of mystery, with the singer unsure of what they are looking for but still seeking it nonetheless. The final plea for someone to turn on the light is delivered with added urgency, as if the singer is on the brink of a breakthrough but needs help to fully realize it.
Overall, the lyrics of 'Where Is the Light' evoke a dreamlike state of mind and the search for clarity and understanding within it. The repetition of the refrain and surreal imagery create a hypnotic effect that draws the listener into the singer's unsettling yet fascinating world.
