"Bless This House"

Bless this house, O Lord we pray,
Make it safe by night and day ...

Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out ...
Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie overall ...

Bless this door that it may prove,
Ever open,
To joy and love ...

Bless these windows shining bright,
Letting in God's Heavenly light,

Bless the hearth, the painting there,
With smoke ascending like a prayer!

Bless the folk who dwell within,
Keep them pure and free from sin ...

Bless us all that we may be,
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee ...

Bless us all that one day we may dwell,
O Lord! With Thee!

Overall Meaning

The song "Bless This House" by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is a prayer-like ode to a home, imploring for safety and protection for those who live inside. It begins with a request for the Lord to bless the house and make it safe, from dusk until dawn. The song continues by asking for protection from want and trouble, and for a roof and chimneys that will bring peace to those inside. The lyrics then move on to ask that the door remain open to joy and love, while the windows let in Heavenly light. The hearth and painting are blessed, with smoke rising from the fire like a prayer. Finally, the people who live inside the home are blessed to keep them pure and free from sin, so that they are fit to dwell with the Lord.

The lyrics of "Bless This House" bring a sense of comfort and security to those who hear them. The song is a reminder that home is a sacred space, where one can find refuge from the troubles of the world. The request for blessings on the physical aspects of the house, as well as the people who live in it, makes it clear that the home is a place to be cherished and protected.

Mr. Olsen has one of those incredibly rare, perfect tenor voices that transfix the listener. I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this rendition and still get goosebumps. Magnificent.

Marvelous solo and amazing choir  and orchestra background.
In Texas USA on a Wednesday night  after a day of too many bad news from around of the country, this song "Bless this house" brought me inspirational message.
Only GOD can make our house blessed. The Bible tell us about it on Psalm 127

I am no Stanford Olsen, but I have have lost count how often that I have rudely sang along with him on this song. Just can't help myself, at 68, I still have the high notes, perhaps thanks to Mr. Olsen.
