War Returns
Morning Glory Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

war returns to earth vanquishing re-birth
feel my heart flood as i pound the mud
but i know that that's ok

peace accords dissolve
inhumanities resolve
the boots upon my feet
a soldiers quick retreat
but i know that that's ok
i'll carry on my way

quick descent
chaos event
it's imminent now

words that turn to fears every couple of years
time will tell us true
war is overdue
but i know that that's ok
there will be another day
waiting for a new repore
a brand new war
slowly slide away
dying for your way
can't you see...

that under mountains of money
you'll find all the bodies of brethren
there is no one answer
to rqual the sum of your questions
juts aim high defend yourself
and look around you

try and call the truth
as the wars rage..

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Morning Glory's song "War Returns" are full of emotion and paint a picture of the devastation that war brings to earth. The first few lines express the idea that war destroys everything in its path and that there is no rebirth after it. The pounding heart of the soldier can be felt through these lines, and it is clear that the experience of war is a traumatizing one. Despite this, the soldier accepts this as an inevitable reality and continues to carry on.

The next lines highlight the futility of peace accords and the inevitability of war. Inhumanities are resolved through war, and soldiers are forced to retreat quickly. But even in the face of this, the soldier knows that he/she must carry on, and there will be another day of war. The lyrics also mention the anticipation of a new war, which is waiting to happen. The image of slowly sliding away and dying for one's way depicts the despair that war brings.

The lyrics go on to criticize the idea of engaging in wars for money and the cost it brings to human life. The ending lines of the song encourage individuals to aim high, defend themselves, and look around them, calling for the truth to be revealed in the midst of wars.

anyone have tabs for the breakdown part?

caivs

@Nathan Dean that's the part haha thanks for this this sounds good to me for the first part! let me know if you are able to figure out the rest lol thanks again

Nathan Dean

If you're talking about that part at 2:43 I'm confused as you but my best guess is D string 4-4-5-4-4-7-4-4-5-4-4-7-4-4-5-4-4 then that repeats. But after that first couple parts of that breakdown is fucked and the rest I'm still trying to figure out but I know it involves using the D major scale for sure

Tommy Fomine

Thumbs up if you agree that the locomotive on the cover is gnarly as FUCK
