Honey White
Morphine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Honey white, honey white
Honey white

Made a deal for some angel food
Honey white, honey white
Everybody told her it was sweet and good yea
Oh honey, oh honey
Oh honey, oh honey

She said you'll see me later yea you'll see me later
Will you see me later seemed all too soon
And then he smiles he knows honey's coming back
Honey's going to want some more angel food

Devil made of honey, devil made of honey
Devil made of honey, devil made of honey

She said you'll get me when I'm old and wizened
And not a day before that
The devil said honey it won't be that long
Besides I like to see a little more fat
Yea I like to see a little more fat
You know I like to see a little more fat

Honey white, honey white
Honey white, honey white
Uh tell me how is your angel food
Honey white oh honey white
She says it's sweet and good
Honey white honey white uh honey white

The sweetness starts to fade
Honey white, honey white
Thought you could get away

Poor honey, poor honey
Poor honey, poor honey

Overall Meaning

The song "Honey White" by Morphine is an enigmatic and complex song that has fascinated music lovers for years. The song centers around a deal between a woman and the devil made of honey, and the consequences that follow. The woman has made a deal for some angel food, which is implied to be a metaphor for something desirable or addictive, and is told by everyone that it is sweet and good. However, as the song progresses, it becomes clear that the angel food is not as innocent as it seems. The woman becomes addicted to it, and the devil made of honey keeps coming back for more.

The devil's character is portrayed as alluring yet dangerous, and the woman is depicted as both afraid of and fascinated by him. She knows that she is making a deal with the devil, but she cannot resist the allure of the angel food. In the end, the sweetness of the angel food fades, and the woman is left with nothing but the consequences of her actions.

The beauty of the song lies in its ambiguity and lyrical cleverness. It is not clear what the angel food represents, and the devil made of honey is a mysterious and intriguing character. The song can be interpreted in many ways, and each listener can find their own meaning in it.

Still rocking this album these days. Nothing compares to that sax and bass. RIP Mark Sandman - he is still so missed.

@BlueBeeMCMLXI

Well, there's one cool woman left. Hey, Anna, is that cover photo of yours where you truly live? WOW.

@annak8313

@@BlueBeeMCMLXI I cannot be the only woman who digs Morphine! No, that is a just a beautiful shot of the open road - I love road trips. I live in a more suburban area.

yall wake up.

@Biscaine

@@nancyzehr3679I thought he collapsed on stage due to a ❤ attack, but I guess he could have easily been under the influence during their last show , so sad , such as awesome unique band

@crunkycrunker

My roommate in college used to play this song and I never knew any of the lyrics but the sax riff has been in my head for like... 25 years.

@theunbreakable1587

Bro this sax riff has been in my head since 1995, my highschool graphic arts teacher played all the Morphine albums almost none stop in the shop 1993-97. And today I went hunting for this wicked sax riff, I'm 44 now & it's still badass. My teachers name was William C Dick, (Mr. Dick) not a joke. He was the coolest teacher that ever lived, I learned a lot from him.

@jackspry9736

RIP the two members of Morphine
Mark Sandman (September 24, 1952 – July 3, 1999), aged 46
Billy Conway (December 18, 1956 – December 19, 2021), aged 65
You both will be remembered as legends.

@NandorTheRelentless76

RIP Mark......I was lucky enough to see Morphine play live a handful of times. Being from Massachusetts and only a short drive to Boston, seeing them live in their home turf was awesome! I STILL listen to these albums all these decades later and they will stand the test of time because of how original they were

@amy5519

That is so cool! I wish more people would listen to them❤
