Dominรณ
Morrison (Van) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't want to discuss it
I think it's time for a change
You may get disgusted
Start thinkin' that I'm strange

In that case I'll go underground
Get some heavy rest
Never have to worry
About what is worst and what is best (get it)

Oh oh Domino (all right)
Roll me over Romeo
There you go
Lord have mercy

I said oh oh Domino
Roll me over Romeo
There you go
Say it again

I said oh oh Domino
I said oh oh Domino, dig it

There's no need for argument
There's no argument at all
And if you never hear from him
That just means he didn't call or vice versa
That depends on wherever you're at
Or and if you never hear from me
That just means I would rather not

Oh oh Domino
Roll me over Romeo
There you go
Lord have mercy
I said oh oh Domino
Roll me over Romeo

There you go
Say it again
Oh oh Domino
I said oh oh Domino.

Hey Mr. DJ
I just want to hear some rhythm and blues music
On the radio
On the radio
On the radio
Uh-uh, all right
Uh-uh, all right
Uh-uh, all right
Uh-uh

Hear the band
One more time

Overall Meaning

The song "Domino" by Van Morrison is a classic example of his bluesy and soulful style, featuring repetitive lyrics and joyful instrumentation. The lyrics appear to be about Morrison's desire to get away from the stresses and arguments of his life by going "underground" and getting some "heavy rest." He seems to be suggesting that sometimes it's better to let go of the things that are causing problems and just take care of yourself. The chorus features the words "Oh oh Domino" repeated several times, along with the lines "Roll me over Romeo" and "There you go." These lines are likely just part of the joyful, playful spirit of the song, without any deeper meaning.

The second half of the song features Morrison addressing a DJ and asking to hear some rhythm and blues music on the radio. This section seems like a nod to the roots of Morrison's music and his appreciation for blues and soul artists who came before him. The song ends with the repeated phrase "Hear the band, one more time," perhaps a reference to the joy of live music and the shared experience of connecting with others through music.

Overall, "Domino" is a classic example of Van Morrison's soulful and bluesy style, featuring joyful repetition and playful lyrics that focus on the pleasures of music and the importance of taking care of oneself.

I am a runner, and I would run by Moe's and they would always play great songs. I heard it twice on two separate runs, so I felt it was my run song.

I run for my boat friend Ricky who died in 2020 at 32. Lots of great memories on the lake. I want to qualify for Boston and go sub 3 on the marathon.

I guess I hurt my back golfing, with my terrible swing. And I just want to come back stronger then ever.

I feel weird telling my story to people. But it feels nice to comment this to a bunch of people who love "Domino". Thanks for it Van Morrison!
