Mortification Lyrics

Guidance of our intimacy
Holy love is what I see
Direction from the book of life
Song of songs in the Megilloth

Existence of admiration
Man's part of God's creation
Scrolls of the Megilloth
Scrolls of the Megilloth

David's genealogy
A female friend is she
Ruth is a book of love
To overcome difficulties
Boaz, symbolic of Christ
Redeeming His holy Church

Esther, victory of morals
Over conniving racist king
Sovereignty and great courage
Protection of God's people

Taken to captivity
A sense of tragedy
Jeremiah's Lamentation
Grieving for his nation
Destruction is a logical result
Of defying God

A book of philosophy
Frustration absurdity
Everything has a season
Purposed under Heaven

Ecclesiastes, Solomon's searching
Just like your life

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mortification's song Scrolls of the Megilloth speak of the guidance of intimacy and holy love found in the book of life. This biblical book contains the Song of Songs, also known as the Song of Solomon, which is a love poem between a man and a woman that symbolizes the love between God and humanity. The existence of admiration is also mentioned, affirming that man is part of God's creation. The Scrolls of the Megilloth, a collection of five Jewish books, is mentioned throughout the song.

The first book mentioned is Ruth, known as the book of love, which tells the story of Ruth's loyalty and devotion to her mother-in-law Naomi, and her eventual marriage to Boaz, a kinsman-redeemer who represents Christ. The next book mentioned is Esther, which tells the story of how Esther saved the Jewish people from a racist king through her bravery and faith. The Scrolls also include Lamentations, which grieves the destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of the Jewish people to Babylon, and Ecclesiastes, which explores the purpose and meaning of life.

The song concludes with the acknowledgment that life is like Solomon's search for meaning, with frustration and absurdity, but ultimately finds purpose under Heaven. The lyrics of Scrolls of the Megilloth provide an insightful interpretation of the biblical texts they reference and encourage listeners to search for guidance and meaning in their own lives.

I just did some vocals the other day and i cant agree with you more

The constant gory stuff just for the sake of gory

Im more of a cosmic horror sort of writer

Like deeds of flesh (Dawn of the next lyrics)
Leaves more of an impact

What are you up to these days
Meaning what do you listen to these days?

Absolutely one of the VERY FEW Creme de la Creme bands I could listen to that actually LIVED AND BREATHED their Bible Truth instead of living like heathens the moment they left the stage when they thought no one was looking.
Saw them live in the tent at Cornerstone in 1994.
They were insane and off - the -hook as I moshed and dove straight into the eye of the pit every chance I got when they played this tune.
Definitely a TRUE CLASSICAL BIBLE STUDY for MANY YEARS to come.
P.S. - When I spoke with Steve Rowe after the show, he showed me WHO GOD IS through his own humility.
Taught me ALOT in short time God's Loving Mercy and Grace.
This man really cares about each and every person attending the shows.
He is a TRUE BLESSING to ALL who would just take the time to actually LISTEN to him instead of critising and judging him strictly for his music.
Steve has more Spritual, personal, and musical integrity in his personal life than I will ever have in real life.
That's called consistency, ladies and gentlemen.
An example from which we ALL will eventually learn at EVERY LEVEL in our lives, bar none.
Thank you, Steve, for the EXTREME BLESSING of choosing to Glorify God through your awesome and raw gift inside and out.
May God truly bless and heal you in every area of your life as He is doing with me.
You are a TRUE BLESSING that will never, ever be replicated.

There’s nothing heavier than the Word of God. IMO this music suites it perfectly.
