these days
Moses and the Black Cats Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One of these days I've got to get things right
I'm gonna do my business in the daylight
One of these days you know I've got to get things right
I'm gonna start doin' business out in the broad daylight

One of these days I've got to get things straight
I'm gonna stop hangin' out with jail babe
One of these days you know I've got to get things straight
I'm gonna stop this foolin', hangin' out with jail house babe

One of these days I've got to get in step
It won't be long 'fore I'll be needin' help
One of these days you know I've got to get in step
The way things goin' lately, I'll soon need, needin' help

One of these days I've got to go back home
Go sit out on my front porch and compose a poem

One of these days you know I've got to go back home
I'm gonna sit out on my front porch, rock away, compose a poem

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Moses and the Black Cats’s song “These Days” convey a sense of regret and a desire for change. The lyrics repeatedly mention the phrase “one of these days,” as though the singer is making a promise to themselves about the changes they will make in their life. The first two verses talk about doing business in the daylight and getting away from a negative influence (“jail babe”). The third verse talks about needing help, hinting at a struggle the singer may be facing. Finally, the last verse talks about going back home and doing something peaceful and creative on the front porch.

Overall, “These Days” seems to be a song about the challenges of making positive changes in one's life. The repeated refrain of “one of these days” suggests that the singer is aware of what changes they need to make, but it also hints at a sense of resignation or procrastination. The song captures the difficult balance between acknowledging the need for change and actually taking action to make it happen.

What cat breeds?

@1MillionMileRoadTrip

We adopted him, he was a wild farm barn cat, he has become the best cat. He loves our lab dog Maggie and I believe he thinks he is a dog.
