Originally, the band featured former Indecision guitarists Justin Brannan and Rachel Rosen, as well as on-again off-again Indecision vocalist Tom Sheehan. On their debut full-length for Trustkill Records, Nothing In Vain, Brannan played guitar and Rosen bass, Sheehan did vocals and the band featured a constant rotation of drummers, as no drummer has stayed with Most Precious Blood for too long.
In 2003, after Sheehan departed the band, while initially finding themselves without a vocalist, the band soon teamed up with former One King Down vocalist Rob Fusco, added Matt Miller on bass and moved Rosen to second guitar for their second album Our Lady of Annihilation, also on Trustkill Records.
One of the more striking features of the band is that all members have always had strong vegan and pro-animal rights beliefs (Our Lady of Annihilation came with a small flyer for the animal rights organization PETA, for example).
Life During Wartime
Most Precious Blood Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The sweet lullaby of slamming doors
We spend our time watching
Raindrops race up windshields
We spend our time waiting in line
Only to die
If only I could sit down
Tell me the story that never ends
Play me the record that never ends
If only I could sit down
With you one more time
I wouldn't wish this misery
On my worst enemy
Hangrene hearts unite tonight
The lyrics to Most Precious Blood's song Life During Wartime describe the feelings of despair and hopelessness that can come with living in a world that feels like it's constantly at war. The first two lines set the scene for the rest of the song - sleepless nights on hardwood floors and the constant sound of slamming doors. These are images of a life that's not just physically uncomfortable, but emotionally taxing as well. The next two lines convey a sense of frustration with the monotony of life during wartime - watching raindrops on windshields and waiting in lines just to die. These activities feel meaningless and futile when one is stuck in the midst of conflict.
The chorus of the song expresses a desire to connect with someone - "if only I could sit down with you one more time." The "you" in this line could be a lost loved one, a friend who's moved away, or simply anyone who could provide comfort and understanding in a time of turmoil. The lines "tell me the story that never ends/play me the record that never ends" suggest a longing for something timeless and unchanging, in contrast to the chaos and uncertainty of the present. The repetition of the first and last lines of the chorus create a sense of desperation - the singer knows that this may never happen, but still wishes for it anyway.
The final line of the song, "gangrene hearts unite tonight," brings the focus back to the present moment. Despite the pain and suffering that the singers and their listeners may be experiencing, there is still the possibility for solidarity and connection. "Gangrene hearts" suggests that even when someone's heart is wounded or damaged, there is still the potential for healing and growth through connection with others.
