All for You
Motörhead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Still can't believe it, can't stand to leave it
But I know the rules
We were doomed babe, too much too soon babe
Acting like fools

Tried to fly and climbed too high
We saw it all, we had to fall
But I swear it's true, was all for you
I swear it's true, was all for you

Making love all the time
Never let the day go by, or a night
Sweet music in the dark
You always found the spark to light my light

Tried to fly and climbed too high
We saw it all, we had to fall
But I swear it's true, was all for you
I swear it's true, was all for you

The only one babe, to ever break my heart
Was you, such a shame
Though guys never cry, but that'll be the day I die
Speaking your name
Tried to fly and climbed too high
We saw it all, we had to fall

But I swear it's true, was all for you
I swear it's true, was all for you

Overall Meaning

The song “All for You” by Motörhead is about a relationship that ended too soon due to mistakes made by both parties involved. The singer still can’t believe that the relationship has ended, but knows that it had to. They both acted like fools and were doomed from the start because things moved too quickly. Despite the mistakes, they were still in love and tried to make it work by making love all the time and keeping the spark alive with sweet music in the dark.

However, they were too high on love and climbed too high, leading to their inevitable fall. Yet, the singer swears that everything they did, they did it all for their partner. The only person who ever broke the singer’s heart was their partner, and it is a shame that it ended like this. Though he doesn't typically cry, speaking their name will be the day he dies.
