Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Eat the Rich
Motörhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Let's see if you are hungry enough
Take a bite, take another, just like a good boy would
Get a sweet thing on the side
Home cooking, homicide
Side order, could be your daughter
Finger-licking good
Put the bite on the son of a bitch
Don't mess around, don't give me no switch
C'mon baby eat the rich
C'mon baby eat the rich
Sittin' here in a restaurant
Tell the waiter just what you want
Is that the meat, you wanted to eat
How would you ever know?
Hash browns an' bacon strips
I love the way that you lick your lips
No fooling, I can see you drooling
Feel the hunger grow
Come on baby, eat the rich
Put the bite on the son of a bitch
Don't mess around, don't give me no switch
C'mon baby eat the rich
C'mon baby eat the rich
Eat up, eat you, eat me
Eat two, get one free
Shetland pony, extra pepperoni
Just pick up the phone
Eat Greek, or eat Chinese
Eat salad, or scarf up grease
You're on the shelf, maybe eat yourself
Come on, bite my bone
Come on baby, eat the rich
Put the bite on the son of a bitch
Don't mess around, don't give me no switch
C'mon baby eat the rich
C'mon baby eat the rich
The song "Eat the Rich" by Motörhead is a scathing commentary on class warfare and the greed of the wealthy. The song begins with the line "they say music is the food of love, let's see if you are hungry enough," suggesting that the lyrics that follow will be an intense and potentially uncomfortable experience for the listener. From there, the lyrics become more and more disturbing, encouraging the listener to "eat the rich" and "put the bite on the son of a bitch." The chorus reinforces this message, demanding that the listener take action and "eat the rich."
The lyrics are designed to be both confrontational and provocative, using dark humor and violent imagery to get the point across. The line "home cooking, homicide" suggests that the anger directed at the rich might lead to violent action. Likewise, the line "could be your daughter, fingerlicking good" is disturbing, linking the idea of cannibalism with sexual desire.
Ultimately, the song is a call to action, urging listeners to take a stand against inequality and the abuses of power that often come with wealth. The message is clear: it's time to stop being complacent and start fighting back.
