Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

And you still ain't here
Waiting, waiting, hanging on the phone
It feels like a hundred years
You always keep me hanging on
Driving me crazy all the time
But when it comes down to fooling around
C'mon now honey, spread my money
Take me around the world
All this time, out of my mind
A really nasty girl
English rose, a crown of thorns
I hope you're staying around
English rose, a long, long time
Before you wear me down
The first time it was amazing
But the next time's gonna be hell
I know your Momma thinks you're a sweet young thing
But she don't know you too well
Come on now, lover, don't run for cover
You're the one I deserve
All this time, way out of line
A great nasty girl
English rose, a crown of thorns
Don't you let me down
English rose, a long, long time
You should be wearing the crown
A long time we been lovers
A long time doing that stuff
A long time I been waiting here
But I still ain't had enough
Come on now woman, hold on I'm coming
I'm just a bundle of nerves
Stay right there, you ain't going nowhere
Be my nasty girl
Come on now baby, drive me crazy
Take me around the world
You're so fine, just making time
A real nasty girl
English rose, a crown of thorns
You better stick around
English rose, a long, long time
You'll never wear me down
English rose (English rose) growing wild
I like to keep you unwound
(English rose) gonna be a long time
Before you wear me down
Motörhead's song "English Rose" is about a woman that the singer has been waiting for hours, but she is still not here. The song is about the singer's frustration with waiting and hoping for this woman, who seems to keep him hanging on. Despite the frustration, he finds her irresistible and intriguing, especially when they are fooling around. He wants her to take him all around the world and spend his money, and he accepts that he is not in his right mind when he is with her because she is a "real nasty girl." The "English rose" in the song is both a symbol of purity and innocence, as well as a symbol of the woman's ability to inflict pain, just like a crown of thorns.
The lyrics of "English Rose" reveal a complex relationship between the singer and the woman he desires. On the one hand, he is frustrated with her for keeping him waiting, but on the other hand, she has a hold over him that he cannot resist. The line "stay right there, you ain't going nowhere" shows that the singer wants to keep her close, even though she is a "real nasty girl." The song also explores the idea of the "English rose" as a symbol of both beauty and pain, which could be interpreted as a commentary on the nature of love and desire.
