Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Why don't you listen?
Ain't got the time that you had yesterday
Can't be so blind, way out of line
Thinking the world wants to hear what you say
Nobody ever knows why
Nobody ever knows who
Nobody sees that we're all on our knees
Hey, what the hell
Get out of your shell
Time to get back to when truth was all true
Get me some danger
Get me a stranger
Time to be counted and pay up my dues
Stand or fall
Get ourselves something that we can believe
Fight or crawl
Use what you find in yourself to succeed
Stand or fall
Wearing your heart on your sleeve
Politics suck, you'll be shit out of luck
If you ever mess with the methods they use
No way to doubt, three strikes you're out
You against them, it's your freedom you lose...
Nobody questions the law
Nobody questions the man
Nobody cares 'cos nobody knows where
We go to so we can kick out the jams
Hey what the hell
You know yourself well
Get back to your honor and pride
Time for some slamming
Time for some jamming
Take us away from the snare of their lies
Stand or fall
Get ourselves something that we can believe
Fight or crawl
Use what you find in yourself to succeed
Stand or fall
Wearing your heart on your sleeve
We're on the run, we're under the gun
Sneaking and hiding, away from the sun
Breaking the law, don't know what for
Our generation is made up of whores
Get out of town, get out of jail
Nobody here gonna make us our bail
Don't really care that my life isn't fair
Hard on your head in the electric chair
Out of your mind, deaf, dumb and blind
Don't know how people can be so unkind
Grown up too soon, grown up too soon
Too many wolves looking up at the moon
Way too clean, too fucking healthy, you know what I mean
Way too rich, every executive son of a bitch
Way too mean, they're all to eager to feed the machine
Way too smart, gonna come down and break all of our hearts
Way too slick - way they schmooze, like to making me sick
Time to leave, wearing your heart on your sleeve
Wearing your heart on your sleeve
The lyrics of Motörhead's "Heart On Your Sleeve" are a call to action to rebel against the establishment and stand up for what you believe in. The song opens with a reminder that time is running out, and we need to start paying attention to what really matters. The lyrics then take a swipe at politicians, warning that their methods are corrupt and that we must be careful not to get caught up in their games. It's a call to arms for listeners to stop blindly following the status quo and start thinking for themselves.
The chorus repeats the phrase "stand or fall," emphasizing the need for action and the consequences of inaction. The lyrics encourage us to wear our hearts on our sleeves and use our passion and conviction to succeed, even in the face of adversity. The final verse highlights the flaws of society, from the corruption of the wealthy to the callousness of our peers. It's a bleak reminder that the world can be a harsh and unforgiving place, but that we have the power to change it if we're willing to fight.
