Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Love Me Forever
Motörhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
End of our tether, backs to the wall
You give me your hand, don't you ever ask why
Promise me nothing, live 'til we die
Everything changes, it all stay the same
Everyone guilty, no one to blame
Every way out, brings you back to the start
We are the system, we are the law
We are corruption, worm in the core
One of another, laugh 'til you cry
Faith unto death or a knife in the eye
Everything changes, it all stay the same
Everyone guilty, no one to blame
Every way out, takes you back to the start
Everyone dies to break somebody's heart
Oh, my lost come and take me
Love me or leave me, tell me no lies
Ask me no questions, send me no spies
You know love's a thief, steal your heart in the night
Slip through your fingers, you best hold on tight
Everything changes, it all stay the same
Everyone guilty, no one to blame
Every way out, brings you back to the start
Everyone dies to break somebody's heart
Oh, my lost come and take me
The lyrics to Motörhead's song "Love Me Forever" speak to the idea that love can be both beautiful and painful, and that nothing stays the same forever. The opening lines, "Love me forever, or not at all/ End of our tether, backs to the wall" suggest that the singer is all in when it comes to their feelings, but they are also aware of the risks and potential for heartbreak. The lines "Promise me nothing, live 'til we die/ Everything changes, it all stay the same" are a recognition of the impermanence of life and love. The singer is essentially saying that they are committed to living life fully and experiencing all that love has to offer, even if it means facing the pain of loss and heartbreak.
As the song progresses, the lyrics touch on themes of guilt, corruption, and the idea that everyone is responsible in some way for the things that happen in the world. Lines like "We are the system, we are the law/ We are corruption, worm in the core" offer a bleak view of society as a whole - a world in which everyone is guilty, but no one is truly to blame. The lyrics also suggest that there is a cyclical nature to life and that nothing we do can truly break the cycle. Lines like "Every way out, brings you back to the start/ Everyone dies to break somebody's heart" speak to the idea that we are all ultimately bound by our own mortality and the inevitability of loss.
In the chorus, the singer asks for love, but does so with the understanding that love can be fleeting and unpredictable. The line "Oh, my lost come and take me" suggests a yearning for connection, but also implies that the singer may have lost faith in the idea of finding a true and lasting love. Overall, the lyrics to "Love Me Forever" are a reflection on the complexities of love, life, and the world we live in - a world that is both beautiful and painful, but ultimately worth experiencing to the fullest.
