Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
You know, there aint no other woman, that could make me feel this way
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Gets up close, you know, I just aint got a word to say
Please don't touch, I shake so much
Please don't touch, I shake so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
You know I got so nervous, when I see his eyes that shine
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
He gets too close, and a chill runs down my spine
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Please don't touch, I shake so much
Please don't touch, I shake so much
Well, I don't know why she got her claws in me
'Cause I aint fighting, baby can't you see?
Sneaking up the stairway, running like a thief
Spend the night, just shaking like a leaf
I remember the first time, I took you to a cheap motel
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
I woke up drunk you know, I felt like Eskimo Nell
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much, huh!
Please don't touch, I shake so much
Please don't touch, I shake so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much
Don't you touch me baby 'cause I'm shakin' so much, whoo!
The lyrics to "Please Don't Touch" by Motörhead and Girlschool is a song about being so overwhelmed with feeling for a woman that the singer asks her to not touch him because he is so nervous and anxious. The song talks about the magnetic attraction that this woman has on the singer, and how he can't help but be infatuated with her, even if it's causing him physical and emotional turmoil. The chorus repeats the line "Please don't touch" as a plea for the woman to stay away from him due to the overwhelming sensation he experiences when she's close.
The lyrics further imply that the singer has had a history of bad encounters with this woman, and he remembers the first time he took her to a cheap motel and ended up waking up feeling terrible. The lines "Sneaking up the stairway, running like a thief, Spend the night shaking like a leaf" further support the idea that these encounters are dangerous and unpredictable, but the singer can't help but be drawn to her.
Overall, the song is a cautionary tale about being drawn into unhealthy relationships and the feeling of helplessness that accompanies such situations.
