Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

Shut Your Mouth
Motörhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You think the world is yours,
All right, you been up all night,
So why can't you get it right?
No chance
No dance for you
No teenage romance
Out of the mix, out of the mix.
[Chorus:]
Ain't no way out, your momma was right,
Shut your mouth, shut your mouth.
You weren't home last night,
You don't come home no more.
Gotta be fair, your don't say where
You don't know, nobody cares.
No chance, no dance for you, no teenage romance,
None of your ticks, none of your tricks.
[Chorus]
Can you tell me the truth, can it get much worse?
Don't tell me no lies, 'cos I can read your eyes.
You're everything that we despise,
No chance, no dance for you, no teenage romance
Better be quick
Better be quick
[Chorus]
The lyrics of "Shut Your Mouth" by Motörhead reflect the frustration and anger towards someone that is arrogant and believes they own the world. Lemmy, the lead singer and songwriter of the band, is warning this person that they are not as important as they think they are, and they need to stop talking and start listening. The repetition of phrases like "No chance, no dance for you, no teenage romance, out of the mix" and "Shut your mouth" serves as a clear message that this person is not welcome anymore and that they need to leave. The chorus is a direct reference to the person's mother, who has probably warned them about their behavior before.
Lemmy's lyrics also allude to the person's lack of responsibility and honesty, as they were not home last night and don't come home anymore. The line "can you tell me the truth, can it get much worse?" reveals Lemmy's skepticism towards the person's ability to be truthful, and the phrase "you're everything that we despise" sums up the disdain that the singer and possibly the whole band feels towards this person.
Overall, "Shut Your Mouth" is a straightforward and no-nonsense song that sends a clear message to someone that is outstaying their welcome. Its punk rock energy and aggressive sound are a staple of Motörhead's style, and the lyrics match the intensity of the music perfectly.
