Motörhead released 23 studio albums, 10 live recordings, 12 compilation albums and five EPs over a career spanning 40 years. Usually a power trio, they had particular success in the early 1980s with several successful singles in the UK Top 40 chart. The albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades and, particularly, the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith cemented Motörhead's reputation as a top-tier rock band. The band are ranked number 26 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. As of 2016, they have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide.
Most often classified as heavy metal, Motörhead has been credited with being part of and influencing numerous musical scenes, thrash metal and speed metal especially. Lemmy, however, always insisted that they were a rock and roll band. He said that they had more in common with punk bands, but with their own unique sound, Motörhead is embraced in both punk and metal scenes. Their lyrics typically covered such topics as war, good versus evil, abuse of power, promiscuous sex, substance abuse and, most famously, gambling, the latter theme being the focus of their hit song "Ace of Spades".
Lemmy died on 28 December 2015 from cardiac arrhythmia and congestive heart failure, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. The day after his death, drummer Mikkey Dee and guitarist Phil Campbell both confirmed that Motörhead had disbanded. By 2018, all three members of Motörhead's best-known line-up (Lemmy, Taylor and Clarke) had died.

The Wolf
Motörhead Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Nobody cares as long as they got what they need
Don't look for help, under attack,
Blind eyes are daggers, gonna stab you in the back
The wolf is at your door,
The wolf
This ain't the time, to talk of love
Don't you rely, on passers by,
They'd sooner look, the other way, and let you die
The wolf is at your door,
The wolf
Don't ask for why, don't ask for help,
Don't ask for anything, that you can't do yourself
The wolf is here, he's at your side
You better fight him, or it's you that's gonna die,
The wolf is at your door,
The wolf
Ow!
The lyrics to Motörhead's song "The Wolf" depict a bleak and harsh reality where people have become indifferent to the suffering of others. The first two lines, "We never see the evil deed, Nobody cares as long as they got what they need" suggest that most people are too absorbed in their own lives and their own needs to care about anyone else's problems. The line "Don't look for help, under attack" conveys a sense of isolation and vulnerability, as if the singer is completely alone in a dangerous situation.
The repeated phrase "The wolf is at your door" serves as a metaphor for the danger that is always lurking and waiting to attack. The wolf is relentless and ruthless, symbolizing the harsh realities of life that people must face on their own. The line "This ain't the time, to talk of love" suggests that in such dangerous times, love and compassion are irrelevant and useless. It is a time for survival, where one must rely on oneself and fight to survive.
The overall message of the song is one of self-reliance and the need to be strong and fight for oneself, especially in a world where others will not come to your aid. The wolf represents the challenges and obstacles that people must face in life, and the only way to survive them is to face them head-on and not rely on anyone else.
