Till The End
Motörhead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't tell me what to do my friend
You'll break more hearts than you can mend
I know myself like no one else
Nothing to defend

My life is full of good advice
And you don't have to tell me twice
Living here in paradise
No rules that I should bend

In my years my life has changed
I can't turn back the time
I can tell you just what made me change

All I know is who I am
I'll never let you down
The rest will give you trust until the end

There ain't no rules to follow
You can't predict tomorrow
I know just who my friends are
The rest can turn to stone

Your memories are yours alone
There yours until your dust and bones
I know the things I'm looking for
I know just what I want

In my life the times have changed
I'm still in a rush
I don't want to hear your fairytales

All I know is who I am
I'll never let you down
The rest will give you trust until the end

Until the end

In your life you'll be amazed
About all you long to lose
You can't never live that life again
But one thing you will never lose

Is the signing in your head
That will still be with you till the end

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Motörhead's song Till The End convey a message of independence and self-assurance amidst the changes and challenges of life. The opening lines, "Don't tell me what to do my friend, You'll break more hearts than you can mend," establish a rebellious attitude towards anyone who tries to control or limit the singer's choices. Instead, the singer claims to know themselves better than anyone else, and has no need to defend their actions or beliefs.

The chorus further emphasizes the singer's strength of character and loyalty to those they trust. The line "All I know is who I am, I'll never let you down, The rest will give you trust until the end," suggests a sense of reliability and steadfastness, with an implicit challenge to anyone who doubts the singer's commitment.

The verses add more depth to the singer's worldview, touching on themes of nostalgia, regret, and personal growth. The lines "Your memories are yours alone, There yours until your dust and bones, I know the things I'm looking for, I know just what I want," imply a recognition of the fleeting nature of life, and a resolve to pursue what truly matters, regardless of anyone else's opinion.

In short, Till The End is an anthem for individuality and resilience, expressed through Motörhead's trademark hard rock sound.

I miss him, he was a great person. He was an honest, friendly, genuine person. One thing i really hated when Lemmy died was the reactions of the mainstream media, they just portrayed him as a drinking rocker, that was the only thing the media always said about him. But the truth is that he was way more than that, he truly was one of the most nice people on earth, he loved his fans and always took the time to talk to the fans. He kept on doing what he loved to do even when he was sick. He kept rocking until the end. I will forever miss him.

Well put my friend ~I never went for that "Lemmy is God" Cliche. I thought it was funny the first time I heard it (Airheads) but then it just got old. Every time I was fortunate enough to meet & chat w/him (which was EVERY time I saw them live...some times 2 or 3 times at one show) even tho I was "aw struck" I was always so amazed how gentle his voice was ~how gentle his demeanor was...& he always met me eye to eye.
Actually he was the Most Human Person I've Ever Met
