1) Motel is a soul-rock band created from Mexico in 2002, consisting of Guillermo (Billy) Méndez, Rodrigo Dávila Chapoy, José Damián and Rubén Puente. Motel formed when its original members — Rodrigo and Billy — reunited to perform music casually, without long-term career intentions. Both recorded songs in music studios and rehearsals independently for several months before coming together as a group. They then played as a duo in bars in [Mexico City, eventually inviting José Damián (drums) and Rubén Puente (bass) to form part of the band.[1]
In March 2006, they released their debut album, Motel, and single, "Dime Ven", both produced by Aureo Bauqeiro and co-produced by Jay de la Cueva under the Warner Music label. "Dime Ven" peaked at second place in the Mexican top 40 in July 2006, coming just short of Julieta Venegas's "Me Voy". Motel followed with a second single, "Olvidame". The same year, Motel wrote Skimo es el Lugar for the television sitcom Skimo, broadcast by Nickelodeon Latinamerica.

Even without the Covid, the rooms should be as clean and sanitized everyday.
When you add the pandemic, it’s 100 times more important.

Years ago I worked as the Manger of Housekeeping, for a popular hotel/motel. The housekeepers were made to keep a record of the time each housekeeper spent in each room.
They would have to write time it was when they walked into the room. And what time it was when they walked out.

Management wanted to see how long each housekeeper took per room - an average. They had come up with some “time table” that a housekeeper should be able to totally clean a room - 10-15 minutes.
If any of them couldn’t clean a room, within their “time”, they were fired.

I’m wondering if these hotels have the same “time” policy.
I’m not saying it’s ok to not change the sheets - that’s disgusting. But I can understand why it wasn’t done.

The thing that takes the most time doing is changing the sheets. But I am saying that this issue might be because of management.
Where I worked, management KNEW that sometimes the sheets didn’t get changed. As long as it wasn’t obvious to the next patron, they were fine with that. Less labor to pay.
I hope not all hotels have a time policy. But if they do, it needs to stop.

For the ones that allow it there needs to be some kind of fine to the hotel for allowing this to happen. And in a way, they encourage it.

The problem is that hotels don’t pay housekeepers well, my mother use to work as one and they gave her 15 rooms alone to finish in 8 hrs. She cleaned well at first but once she saw the abuse and low pay she only cleaned what looked dirty. Hotel owners earn so much money and should pay employees better, the lack of ethical and morality is the reason why people bring their own sheets.

@bea flor I actually leave a tip for almost every hotel I’ve stayed because I know they work under a lot of pressure and have to flip 13-15 rooms in 8 hours and have a number of rooms ready by the 2-3pm check in time. If you think about it they have to work fast if they’re going to wipe, mop, dust, vacuum, collect and discard trash, AND change entire beds within 40ish minutes…
They really do deserve better pay overall

The managers may not be able to tell if all surfaces were wiped down, but there's absolutely no way that they wouldn't notice if there were fewer sheets being washed. It takes a lot of time and space in machines to wash sheets. It would be obvious if fewer sheets were being washed.

At one of the Hilton hotels I cleaned, they had us change the top sheet and bottom sheet, but not the comforter, decorative drape, or decorative pillows. The comforter had no covers, just a sheet placed beneath and above it. We were told they got changed every four days regardless of who stayed there, no matter how long, but I never saw it happen nor was asked to do it.

Wow this is shocking. I have a guest house ( which occupation has dropped to 1 % due to Covid) but for 24 years we were very busy and not once did I let people sleep in the same bedding. I personally made sure everything was washed and the beds made fresh, the floors vacuumed and the bathrooms cleaned properly

I’m a general manager of a Hilton hotel. In my experience it’s best to have multiple people conducting specific tasks to assure sanitation. It’s safe to say that leaving these duties to just one individual can lead to these types of issues. I have a house person remove all the linens and trash before a housekeeper gets to the room. A inspector that sprays and sanitizes surfaces before allowing a guest to enter.

Edit: Ok so I showed this comment to my Mom and she told me that if you take ALL the linens off of a hotel bed and put them in the bathtub (Pillow cases included) the maids will 100% put fresh sheets onto the bed. She said that maids who actually clean the rooms appreciate it if you do this because all they have to do now is put clean sheets on the bed; you’ve basically done half the work for them
Edit 2: I realize it is a maid’s job to change the sheets without the above “hack”. My point is, a lot of maids DON’T do that; you’re doing a courtesy for the next people in the room. Plus I don’t see anything wrong with helping a maid, even if it is their job they’re still a human being

I spent a summer as a teen housekeeping at a beach resort where I lived.
We weren’t supposed to ever wash the top comforters unless it was severely needed, and instead were told to just wipe down any ‘messes’ with a damp cloth. Looking back now I realize how freaking disgusting that is. 🤢

I had to travel for work before Covid hit. As soon as I get to my room, I sanitize everything, switches, handles, remotes, etc. Not changing the sheets is totally unacceptable. They should be cleaning every room thoroughly regardless if it's a cheap hotel or expensive one.

I have stayed in several hotels and motels during the pandemic in 2021. Many bedsheets and pillows were not clean. I woke up one morning and found a hair under the pillow that definitely didn't come from my head. Many times I was in a rush or came in very late and exhausted and so didn't complain. However, even though I was grossed, I never got sick with Covid-19 or even a cold. It's a real challenge to be sanitary whilst traveling.

unfortunately, hotel maids have about 20 minutes to go into a room and vacuum, change sheets, get the trash, clean surfaces and the bathroom, and resupply products. That's it. No matter how small or large a room is, it's 20 minutes. If you get behind you get fired. If hotels hired more maids and allowed them more time, you would get a cleaner room.

Yep, I've worked as a housekeeper in a hotel and it is very hard to keep up with how many rooms you can be assigned with. Some days it was 15 plus. Thats alot for one person especially if they're all double bed rooms. I was told that if one of the queen beds in a double room wasn't slept in; don't change the sheets. One of the worst jobs ever!

Exactly! My mom always Lysol'd everything down as soon as we checked in. I take it a step further and take my own sheets with me. I lay my sheet on top of theirs, covering the pillow. Then I place my pillowcase on top of that. I'm a germaphobe and have been doing this since my early teens. I saw some "bodily fluid stains" on the sheets at the Hyatt, while on our family vacation. That was the last time I slept on hotel sheets. My family and friends tease me about it but I don't care. I also take my own towel, washcloth and flip flops to wear in the shower. The catch 22 is I love traveling but don't trust anyone else to properly clean/disinfect. 😥🤢

I worked at a hotel, alot smaller but still had to do the same tasks. I was front desk but i was in charge of housekeeping. I would personally go and strip all the beds and take all the towels. I could never live with myself if that happened at my place. The only time its ok to leave the sheets is if they stay more than one night but after the second night they would be changed.

Staff tend to have so many hours to clean so many rooms. They're cutting corners in order to get the rooms done in time. I had family who didn't work in housekeeping but worked in hotel maintenance and they said it was often impossible in their opinion for rooms to be cleaned properly with the time they were allowed for each room.

I'm currently a private residential maid, a former 4.5 star Hotel housekeeper, and formerly worked for a commercial cleaning company and honestly after buying myself one of those enzyme black lights it made my job 100000 times easier and I did a better job overall.

The problem is allowing the housekeepers to strip the rooms of dirty linens. At the hotel I work at, the laundry attendant and housekeeping supervisor strip all of the dirty linens, towels and shower curtains in every room. That way the housekeepers HAVE to replace the used items. Then the supervisor and the general manager inspect all of the rooms once the housekeepers have finished cleaning them. It's also easy to tell if someone has laid in the bed or even just sat on it and leaned against the pillows because we'll notice hair and fibers from their clothes. That's at least what goes on at the hotel I work at.

I don't think that's the problem. Some housekeepers care about the job they do, the problem is you have 7.5 hours of work and 20 plus rooms to clean. Management is the problem. If people were taught how to properly clean without the stress of a never ending list probably they will do their job correctly. Not even managers care about the rooms being clean, they go into the room to "check it" and pass it, and that room hasn't even being touch. Housekeeper needs less rooms to clean and more training on how to clean.

Out of habit I always placed towels and sheets in the bathtub before I leave. It’s so I can really scan the room and make sure I didn’t forget anything. I probably forced them to put clean sheets on the bed.

Yikes! I never questioned if the sheets were washed and changed. This is outrageous especially during Covid. Wish I had spray to test the room I'm paying good money for. And we all know to bring wipes. They rarely wipe down the remote or phone or doorknob.

I think great part of the responsability is from the managers and employers, they demand the maids to clean up an avarage of 35 to 40 rooms (when you're a beginner) in a 8 hrs. shift, and if they don't finish on time or if they take the time really needed to get those rooms properly clean, they loose their jobs. I know that by experience. I remember when the "best" member of the crew was training me, she said: "You don't need to clean throughly, you wasting too much time, you have to cheat to finish on time, they don't like to pay overtime... You see, the point is that the room looks clean, not that it has to be clean" ... 🤪 I only lasted a few days because I needed the job. But if I ever have to stay in a hotel, I'll clean it myself and take my own bedding set.

I’ve always wondered how maids know if a room is being stayed in again by the same person or if they know it’s new people. They always seem to clean so fast sometimes even before checkout time and I doubt they go back again and change sheets.

I've worked in a higher end hotel before and I truly believe it because they don't give these woman enough time to do a good job or risk losing there job .. after I worked I never felt the same about hotels.

I remember one time me and my family went to a hotel, but that place was horrible! There was a what looked like a pee stain on the bed. So we got another room. And it smelled like smoke in there.
And going outside of the room at night was like a nightmare! I felt like someone was gonna pop up out of no where.

I’ve been to very luxurious hotels all over the world but I also went to small hotels on the side of a road in small villages and I always had the feeling that they were maybe not as clean overall but at least the sheets were always washed

I usually pull back the sheets to look for bedbugs. I pulled back the sheets at one and found a sock in the bed. The hotel tried to claim that the sheets had been changed and the sock was probably in the dryer with the sheets. Um no. What hotel washes socks with the sheets? I made them change the sheets and we got a discount.

I was at a hotel in Mexico and pulled back the sheets- there was nose boogers in the sheets. We got the whole place for free and I changed my own sheets.

My family had to travel across 7 states in May. We stayed at Hampton Inns. We brought our own wipes and wiped down the rooms just to be safe. The rooms were clean and check in/out was touch less. I wouldn't condemn a whole chain off one bad maid. We also were sure to tip the cleaning staff.

I can attest to this! Not only am I atm staying in a hotel while i look for a place. plus i worked at a Marriott property comforters weren’t changed daily, towels unused were left, mini fridge wasn’t cleaned out. Actually i could write a book on the “policies & cleaning precautions”written but not even a little followed for the Marriott property I worked for and the many Marriott properties I’ve stayed at. I how ever the first thing i do is ask for new sheets and comforters after check in.

You’re given a certain time for each room . Usually 25-30 mins or less to clean everything and finish in a 8 hour work day. And that only depends on how many rooms you’re given. Sometimes you’re given so many rooms to clean it’s overwhelming. You have to be fast. That’s why doing any type of hospitality job is not for everybody and with low pay. Which doesn’t excuse not changing sheets. The hotel I worked at you could get fired on the spot for doing that.

I stayed in a lot of hotels and motels because my job required constant travel and I learned early on to bring a ground sheet for the bed and a personal sleeping bag and pillow to ensure cleanliness. In fact I recently bought a new camping pillow from Amazon that compresses into a small sack making it easier to transport and store. I'm thinking that it's time to upgrade to a more luxurious sleeping bag too. What the hell? I can afford it and the peace of mind it brings is worth every cent.

I worked at a hotel very briefly (6 months) and a couple nasty things happened that made me go...
"huuuuuuh".
1: Cleaning lady was using toilet water (clean, but still.) to clean the mirrors in the bathrooms. She did get in trouble, but who knows who else is doing that.
2: They used white spray paint on the mattresses to cover up stains (sometimes blood) to avoid having to replace the mattress. Freak gross.
I left not long after I witnessed those things. Also the job was just terrible.

This is why I bring my own sheets, blankets and pillows! Usually makes the bed more comfortable with my own stuff on it. I recommend it to anyone who stays at cheap hotels!

As a former housekeeper at a Days Inn in upstate NY I can confirm that DEPENDING ON THE PERSON CLEANING YOUR ROOM(That is huge, everybody is different).. if it looks untouched, it ain't getting changed.. however, like I said.. depending on the person, the manager I worked with counted the stuff(example:however many checked out rooms, you better come back with that many fitted sheets) even if it looked untouched - it needed to be changed out.. but the days she wasn't working and the assistant had the power..." if it looked untouched, don't give me more laundry to do.."

@deweygal Sunlight will help you see left over lint on the beds, any stains, or hair. I work at a holiday inn express currently. You'll barely be able to notice in a dim lighted room. Sunlight reveals all. Also, If you want to see how bad the bathrooms could be, take a blacklight and shine it on all areas in the bathroom it'll show you the dirty stuff.

@deweygal You ask front desk or call. I used to be a supervisor at 4 hotels. Dont ask housekeepers, they need those for their rooms that's on their list. They get 20 rooms and 10 or less sheets of linen and have 20min or less to clean a room and they usually get yelled out by supervisors or management and usually they want housekeepers out by 4 or 3PM. But it takes 30min or more to really clean a room,but they get less time cause management dont want to pay.

I am a germaphobe & every time I go to a hotel, I bring my own cleaning stuff because you can never be too sure. I remember i stayed in some hotel in Chicago & i had dropped my fiancé off at a work thing he had, i came back in, & I walked in one day while the housekeeper was in the middle of cleaning my room when we had a do not disturb sign on the door & was STILL on the door when I got there. I was mad because I watched how she cleaned, she had ALL her cleaning supplies on the sink & didn’t clean it after she was done, she had the toilet brush, & the sponge she had used to clean the bathroom etc, ON the sink, leaking toilet water on it & everything. She only changed our towels & forgot 2 of them-we ended up getting charged for those two towels she failed to replace. I am glad I have the habit of cleaning my own area places & if I hadn’t of walked in on her, I would have never known that she had the toilet brush right next to my toothbrush. I was furious. Definitely reported it but never heard back

Even before COVID I always had my own pillow covers, sheets, towels, and blankets whenever going to a hotel. I always disinfected everything (especially the bathroom) before finally settling down.

Great. As if I needed more reasons to avoid hotel rooms. This is disgusting, for sure. But, what's most irritating to me is the businesses have no accountability. They get caught, issue a press release with empty statements, and then it's business as usual. When big businesses break our trust or even break the law, they often get immunity. When a person does those things, however, it's a different story.

This has been common practice since the dawn of time I’m afraid, and no disease outbreak has ever changed that. I’m willing to bet real cash dollars that there isn’t a single hotel in existence that this doesn’t happen in. If the bed can be put back together without much trouble and they can just brush pubes off the sheets then that’s all they will really do - EVER!!!

This has to be true thinking back to my stays in hotels...there were at least 2 room I did it think the sheets were changed bc there were hairs on the sheets. in another room, hairs on the towels made me leave the hotel. I think there was a buger or something on one of the sheets also. I thought maybe I was going crazy or something how could 3 rooms all have things not changed. That night I asked the hotel to transfer me 3 times and every room had something that made me feel it was it cleaned right. I left the hotel and just kept driving that night. Another hotel in another place had a brown blood stain on the comforter. I am buying a van and staying in there from now on!
