Circuits & Wires
Motion City Soundtrack Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I am all circuits and wires
Conducting symphonies of heat exchange energies
Fueled by a nervous system thrust through the great unknown
A timid mess of frightened bones
I pledge to make the difference
I aim to take no stand
This bitter silence is the only play I have
In light of all their laughter, I'll take to keeping shy
A resolution that I've finally had enough
Can't speak, can't speak, can't speak at all
Don't even think you know the reason
I know there's something wrong within my faulty brain
I lack the proper behavior
My temper-addled tongue can't seem to force it out
The words that linger inside me

Can't speak, can't speak, can't speak at all
Don't even think you know the reason
Can't speak, can't speak, can't speak at all
Don't even try to understand

I am all motors and gadgets
Organically designed to last a finite length of time
Locked in this rotary motion, the wheel spins round and round
I comprehend it all but still can't make a sound
I know there's something wrong within my faulty brain
I lack the proper behavior
My temper-addled tongue can't seem to force it out
The words that linger inside me

Can't speak, can't speak, can't speak at all
Don't even think you know the reason
Can't speak, can't speak, can't speak at all
Don't even try to understand

I am all circuits and wires
Conducting symphonies of heat exchange energies

My temper-addled tongue can't seem to force it out
The words that linger inside me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Motion City Soundtrack's "Circuits & Wires" are a representation of the internal struggle the singer is going through in trying to communicate their thoughts and feelings. They start by describing themselves as "all circuits and wires," implying that they function like a machine, conducting symphonies of energy. The nervous system is described as "thrust through the great unknown," highlighting the singer's uncertainty and fear while navigating through life. Despite their desire to make a difference, they are unable to take a stand due to their timid nature. They feel silenced by the laughter of others and have resolved to keep quiet, suggesting a lack of confidence and a fear of rejection.

The chorus repeats the phrase "Can't speak at all" multiple times, emphasizing the singer's difficulty in expressing themselves. They acknowledge that something is wrong with their "faulty brain," which prevents them from behaving appropriately and speaking their mind. They describe their tongue as "temper-addled," further emphasizing their frustration and the potential for anger that they are unable to express. The final verse repeats the themes from the first, describing the singer as "all motors and gadgets" and locked in a "rotary motion." This repetition reinforces the idea that the singer is stuck in this cycle of struggling to communicate and feeling trapped by their thoughts and emotions.

Oh my god, folks. Come on! Both Motion City Soundtrack and Fall Out Boy are marvelous bands, ok? Arguing is completely unnecessary.

This is the "speedy" old MCS that I love, I just heard almost all the songs in the album. It's strange... I have the feeling that this album it's not gonna stick to my mind, but somewhere at the bottom, I know is impossible not to...

Frontier's Horizon

Nice beat, lyrics, and instrumentals.

fallout boy and motion city soundtrack are two completely different bands. I love them both. Neither of them are copying the other, and just because one came first, doesn't mean that one is better than the other. There are some bands that formed year ago and are much better than bands from '96. And plus fall out boy is on break so I don't even know why they're relevant right now.

Siddhartha Waimenda

Really good track...
