Wild Side
Motley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Greed's been crowned the new king
Hollywood dream teens, yesterday's trash queens
Save the blessings for the final ring, amen
Take a ride on the wild side
Wild side
Forward my mail to me in hell
Liars and the martyrs lost faith in the Father
Long lost is the wishing well
Take a ride on the wild side
Wild side
Fallen angels so fast to kill
Thy Kingdom come on the wild side
Our Father, who ain't in heaven
Be Thy name on the wild side
Holy Mary, Mother, may I
Pray for us on the wild side?
Wild side, wild side
Name dropping no names, glamorize cocaine
Puppets with strings of gold
East LA at midnight, papa won't be home tonight
Found dead with his best friend's wife
Take a ride on the wild side
Wild side
Take a ride on the wild side
Wild side
Gang fights, fatal strikes
We lie on the wild side
No escape, murder rape
Doing time on the wild side
A baby cries, a cop dies
A days pay on the wild side
Wild side, wild side
Tragic life on the wild side
Wild side, wild side
Kicking ass on the wild side
No going back on the wild side
The lyrics to "Wild Side" by Mötley Crüe embody the dangerous and chaotic lifestyle of their time, particularly in the streets of Hollywood where young people would come in pursuit of their dreams despite the harsh realities of the city. The lyrics imply that the glamor and fame of Hollywood came with a price, where one’s innocence gets lost in the process of chasing success. By mentioning 'Greed’ as the new king, the lyrics comment on the fact that the glamour of Hollywood encourages people to indulge in their wildest desires and in turn, the darker side of their personalities.
The 'crucifix under the death list' mentioned in the lyrics, along with 'long lost is the wishing well' indicates the loss of hope and faith brought about by the corruptness of the city. Despite feeling this sense of loss and hopelessness, people still continue to indulge in the chaos that the wild side represents. The lyrics also address the violence and danger associated with the wild side, with mentions of 'gang fights', 'murder' and 'rape'. The song serves as a warning to people who would try to enter the wild side and who should be prepared to face the consequences of it.

Being born in 1970 is the best thing that I could’ve ever gotten from my parents!! Thank you mom and dad!!!

BMX, Honda 80's, M-80s, no supervision all day. All at 8 years old. AC/DC, stealing older Brother's stash. Hot girls before the Great Expansion and Feminism.

I was born in 1970 too. As a little kid in the ‘70s we had awesome Saturday morning cartoons plus all the Sid and Marty Kroft Saturday morning shows. That stuff is pretty cheesy now when I look back on it, but my brother and I LOVED that stuff back then! And there was The Incredible Hulk and the Six Million Dollar Man, among many other classic tv shows. Then my middle school and high school years were in the ‘80s with the best rock and metal!!!! I joined marching band in high school and became a drummer and would come home from school and jam to all this great music! So glad my childhood and teen years were in the ‘70s and ‘80s!!!

My dad was at this concert. He said they had to play the song twice to get enough footage for the music video
@jasonwright6938
I was there too. Your dad was right, they did play it twice. They asked the crowd if we minded if they filmed a music video and everyone lost their minds. They even turned up the lights so the crowd could be seen.

I feel like that would've been awesome
