Whorehouse Blues
Motorhead渀 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Only way to feel the noise is when it's good and loud
So good I can't believe it, screaming with the crowd
Don't sweat it, we'll get it back to you
Don't sweat it, we'll get it back to you
Overkill, overkill, overkill

On your feet you feel the beat, it goes straight to your spine
Shake your head you must be dead if it don't make you fly
Don't sweat it, we'll get it back to you
Don't sweat it, we'll get it back to you
Overkill, overkill, overkill

Know your body's made to move, ya feel it in your guts
Rock 'n' roll ain't worth the name if it don't make ya strut
Don't sweat it, we'll get it back to you

Don't sweat it, we'll get it back to you
Overkill, overkill, overkill

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Motorhead's song "Overkill" are about the power of good, loud music to move and connect people. The singer, Lemmy Kilmister, tells the audience that the only way to truly experience the energy and intensity of music is to turn up the volume and let it take over. When he sings, "Only way to feel the noise is when it's good and loud/So good I can't believe it, screaming with the crowd," he is describing the overwhelming feeling of being caught up in the music and the energy of a live performance.

The chorus of the song repeats "overkill" three times, creating a sense of excess and intensity. When Kilmister sings "On your feet you feel the beat, it goes straight to your spine/Shake your head you must be dead if it don't make you fly," he is encouraging the audience to move and dance to the music, to let it take over and lift them up. For Kilmister, rock and roll is not just a form of entertainment, it is a physical and emotional experience that brings people together.

The lyrics to "Overkill" are simple but effective, capturing the essential nature of rock and roll as a visceral, powerful force. The song has become a classic and remains a staple of Motorhead's live performances.

@@CasMotorhead Lemmy didnt miss his opportunity. He basically passed away as the singer of the Head cat, after he had moved to America. They were beyond cool and he didnt miss his opportunity at all, he actually did it.
