Nothing To Say
Motorpsycho Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

With words big as headlines
The Gospel according to you
Is broadcast on frequencies
Too frequent to see through
But you've got

Nothing to say
Nothing to say
Nothing to say to me
Nothing to say
Nothing to say
Nothing to say
Nothing to say

I just can't relate to your world, man
There's nothing in it for me
The things you take for granted
I still don't want to see
'Cause you've got

Nothing to say

I'll take you down to a river
And show you how it flows
And tell you a story
And watch you grow
'Cause I've got

Something to say
Something to say
Something to say to you
Something to say
Something to say
Something to say
Something to say
Something to say
Something to say

Something to say
Something to say to you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Motorpsycho's song "Nothing to Say" present a confrontation between two individuals who cannot find any common ground to communicate. The first person, presumably the listener or someone well-known to the singer, has a lot to say but nothing of interest or relevance to the singer. Their "Gospel" or opinions are advertised constantly and loudly, but the singer is unable to see through the noise and find anything meaningful. In contrast, the singer describes their own world as incompatible with the first person's, and they do not appreciate the normal things that the first person takes for granted.

The conflict reaches a turning point in the third verse, where the singer offers an alternative to the first person's chatter. The singer proposes to take them to a river, where they can observe the natural flow of things and listen to a story, something the first person can learn from and grow as a result. The contrast between the first and third verses highlights the struggle between vacuous and profound communication.

One possible interpretation of "Nothing to Say" is as a critique of empty language, which fails to convey any meaningful ideas but serves as a way to project one's ego in a noisy world. The song suggests that silence, nature, and storytelling can be more powerful ways to communicate deeper truths and connect with others genuinely.

I have a memory of when I was 13 or 14 of a commercial promoting a new album from a Heavy Metal band called Motopsycho yet I can't find that band all I find is the Megadeth song Motopsycho and when I tried Motorpsycho I found this band and they did release albums in both my 13th and 14th years but none of them are it. I cannot find this band I saw in the commercial. I don't remember the album title but I remember the album art work and what the single sounded like that was being played. This was around the same time Ozzy Osbourne released Down To Earth as well
