See You Again
Mott Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's seems a long long time since I waved goodbye to you
Been working too hard, I'll tell you what I'm planning to do
Gonna hang up my boots and pack up my things and then
I'll fly across the ocean to see you again

Got my dollars saved up, I can count them when I feel low
Your picture's on my bed at each motel I go
Gonna be with you soon, promise you, but until then
Remember I'm marking time to see you again

[Repeat: x3]
We drunk a lot of wine and we saw a lot of early light
And I ain't gonna tell you that a woman never shared my night

Yeah we drunk a lot of wine and we saw a lot of early light
But through it all still you're the only one in sight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Mott's song See You Again depict a man who is reminiscing about a past love and longing to see her again. The song opens with the singer expressing how long it has been since he said goodbye to his lover, and he explains that he's been working too hard. He then announces that he plans on leaving all that behind by hanging up his boots and packing up his things to fly across the ocean to see her again. He is looking forward to reuniting with his love after such a long time.

The second stanza of the song describes the singer's commitment to seeing his lover again. He has saved up his dollars and keeps her picture on his bed in each motel he stays. He promises to be with her soon, but until then, he is marking time to see her again. The chorus is repeated three times, explaining how much they enjoyed each other's company, drank a lot of wine, and saw a lot of early light together. The singer highlights that while he appreciates the time he spent with other women, she is still the only one in sight, indicating his deep love for her.

The song's lyrics reflect on past memories and the desire to relive them. The singer is determined to get to his lover, even if it means leaving everything behind. Mott's song See You Again is a beautiful tribute to love and dedication as the singer demonstrates his longing to be with his past love again.

This was a kick-ass, highly entertaining rock'n'roll band live and by Autumn 76, touring the Shouting & Pointing album, it was common knowledge they were the best band on the circuit in the UK - and there were a lot of good bands about. If they had kept it together and done a third album, they would have been at the forefront of that 'hard-rock' wave that brought the likes of UFO, Judas Priest and AC/DC to a wider audience just before the NWOBHM broke. They are given far too little credit for their influence as their work tends to underpin the merits of Hoople - yet they were a leaner, fitter, sharper band. One more album and they would have been huge...

Mott the Hoople was fantastic...i still wonder why they disbanded as fast as they did....they only made it to my city one time and that was during "The Hoople" tour.....Queen was the warm up band, touring for their fist album......i still remember "Marionette"...Ian Hunter ruled...heck most all bands back then did.....

Uncle Elmer

I saw them as the British Lions and I have never forgotten how entertaining Morgan Fisher was drinking out of a bottle on stage during a show. I loved the Mott and British Lions.

As many others here, I discovered MOTT first, and then Mott The Hoople. The two MOTT albums will stay with me until the end of time, pure treasures!!

This is the first album I ever bought with my own money, what nearly 47 years ago now, and I still play it regularly. They should have been huge.
