Children Of The Revolution
Moulin Rouge Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well you can bump and grind
If it's good for your mind
Well you can twist and shout
Let it all hang out

But you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No, you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No, no...

Well you can tell a plane
In the falling rain
I drive a Rolls Royce
'Cause it's good for my voice

But you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No, you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No, no...

Ladida, ladida didadada
Ladida, ladida didadadadada
Ladida, ladida didadadadada
Ladida, ladida...

You won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No, you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No, you won't fool the Children of the Revolution
No, you won't fool, no no, baby, you won't fool the Children...
No no, you can die before you have the time
You're gonna make it, oh ladida

Ladida, ladida didadada

Overall Meaning

In "Children of the Revolution," a classic rock anthem that was first made popular by the 70s British band T. Rex, the Moulin Rouge cast finds an excellent vehicle to showcase its collective talent. By beginning with the opening line "Well you can bump and grind if it's good for your mind," the song sets an entrancing mood that carries on long after the track has ended. The lyrics offer a message of youthful rebellion paired with a kind of anticipatory euphoria that regularly defines the experience of coming of age. The piece charges listeners to embrace their uniqueness, regardless of how others may see it.

By cordoning off a segment of society that cannot be fooled, those who have been ostracized by people who misunderstand them are given a voice. They demand the right to live life on their terms without being bullied by the establishment or society writ large. By way of the chorus, which repeats the same phrase three times- “No, you won't fool the Children of the Revolution” - surrounded by a lively instrumental section, the song’s message resounds deep within the bones. It can be interpreted as a battle cry, an affirmation of one's identity, a desperate plea for recognition, or simply a reminder to stay true when outside forces pressure people to conform.

The one thing I especially love about Moulin Rouge is that the music is all over the place. I never would have expected a song like this to be in the same soundtrack as El Tango de Roxanne, but it strangely works.

The music always makes me think of cool, badass entrances from movies. Like Endgame when all the Snapped people come back and start yelling to charge Thanos. Or Breaking Dawn when Alice and Jasper walk into the clearing in their cool outfits and have this insanely confidant walk and facial expressions

Man this song is pure awesomeness and I loved it when it was in the movie

I want the background music to play whenever I walk around

Romina

amo questa versione di questa canzone!

Emma Walter

É veramente bella!

Edgardo Gregorini

The intro: Hold me , thrill me, kiss me , kill me

Victoria Brown

This is cool but I think T-Rex's version just sounds more raw

natho dynommiter

that's how I got here, trying to find a "raw" cover !

Lady Charles

Yeah this introduced me to the song back in the day and it's not a bad cover at all but I find myself going back to the T. Rex version more for the raw power.
