Mountains is an ambient/drone project based in Brooklyn, New York. Comprised of Koen Holtkamp and Brendon Anderegg, the duo has released several albums, originally on their own label Apestaartje starting in 2005 and through Thrill Jockey since 2009, the latest being Centralia in 2013.
The two, having first met in middle school, formed Mountains after bonding during their time at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois, and conceived the project in the late nineties as a platform for combining acoustic and electronic instrumentation in a live setting. Materials are improvised onstage, with many elements making their way onto studio albums. Field recordings are often incorporated to further blur the distinction between natural acoustics and electronic synthesis.
Holtkamp (who is originally from the Netherlands) has released multiple albums under his own name, including a few via Thrill Jockey, and has also recorded as Aero, A Silent Partner, and N/A and collaborated with musicians Chris Forsyth and Ben Vida; while his cohort has output under his full name, as Anderegg, and in the band Charter Oak. Both members have scored pieces for film and video, and Holtkamp sometimes shows his own films during live performances.

Your children had it rough
Ain't no fooling
We're back in school
Ain't no fooling
When you've been fooled
Let's come together upon heaven's ground
We've seen the white light and crimson ball
Wall of confusion towers us all
Mothers of the sun
Your children had it rough
Ain't no fooling
We're back in school
Ain't no fooling
When you've been fooled
Mothers of the sun
Your children had it rough
Ain't no fooling
Let's come together upon heaven's ground
We're back in school
What you've been schooling has messed us around
Ain't no fooling
We've seen the white light and crimson ball
When you've been fooled
Wall of confusion towers us all
We've seen the white light and crimson ball
Wall of confusion towers us all
In "Sun", Mountains explores the relationship between the children of the sun and their mothers. The beginning of the song acknowledges the difficult path that the children of the sun have had to endure. They have been fooled by those who were supposed to guide them and teach them. However, they are back in school, learning and growing, despite the obstacles they have faced.
The song then moves onto a call for unity, for the mothers of the sun and their children to come together on heavenly ground. The children have been schooled by their mothers, but something has gone wrong along the way. The white light and crimson ball are symbolic of the confusion and chaos that has been wrought upon them.
The wall of confusion is the obstacle that they are all facing, regardless of whether they are mothers or children of the sun. The song recognizes that despite the challenges they have faced, they are still moving forward, still learning, and still growing.
Overall, "Sun" is a powerful commentary on the relationship between parents and children, the hurdles that we face on our path to growth, and the importance of unity in the face of confusion.

The sun shines brighter from above
And you're the woman that I love
Climb the mountain even higher
To kiss the sun fight the fire
Oh, well
I'll make you mine
You're my sunshine
I'll make you mine
You're my sunshine
Take me with you when you go
To be with you is all I know
As we ride, we light the fire
The second sun's our loves desire
I'll make you mine
You're my sunshine
I'll make you mine
You're my sunshine
The sun shines brighter from above
And you're the woman that I love
We climb the mountain even higher
Kiss the sun, fight the fire
I'll make you mine
You're my sunshine
I'll make you mine
You're my sunshine

Man that kid's voice makes me just smile. Anyone else? I mean, he could sing the flight delay announcements at the airport and make it enjoyable.

It's not, that I don't hear, that his voice is full and sonoric and he has that kind of voice, which makes You feel he can do it effortlessly.
There are moments, but I simply hope, he will not sound forever like a boy, instead of a man. I can't believe I said this, because in general, I like very much youthful sounding men. Not that I constantly prefer these voices, but I just want to explain it more precisely, that on the other hand, this "sound like a man" doesn't mean to me necessarily very low sung vocals or any other characteristic which refers to generic masculine atributes for the vocals of a man.
I don't know, but it feels to me he tries to compensate this by a kind of grunting ( sorry perhaps not the right term).
I like how he does it in Safari Song and Highway Tune and in whole I like his vocals most on their album From the Fires.

yeah, he's extatic. The drum is my favourite instrument, but here it is so well played with other instruments. Each has a role and perfect line and flow. Mozart in this orchestra
