Lionheart
Mourning Lilith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Unbroken chains that once bound me
Kept me from breathing
Told me I could never leave
Now I know who I was meant to be

I looked back when I heard your voice
Calling for me to come back home
I may be blind
But you should know I was taught by
The voice of a lion

Angels are surrounding me
Came to earth and they unbound me
Opened the gates that's where
They found me
Knelt upon the ground

How can I return to my birth place
When I am known only as a coward
Shunned by those who speak my name
I will show you all...

I may be blind
But you should know I was taught by
The voice of a lion

Breathe deep
Sh

You're not a martyr

You closed the doors of his home
Thinking that it's what he wants
I have to be hung upside down
To show that I'm not good enough

I may be blind
But you should know I was taught by
The voice of a lion

I will tear your putrid throat
From your god forsaken neck
And I will rip out your heart
And that will be all she wrote

There will be no forgiveness
For the wretched things you've done

I will watch you suffer
Until kingdom come

Overall Meaning

The opening verse of "Lionheart" by Mourning Lilith speaks about breaking free from the chains that bound her and kept her from breathing. She was told that she could never leave, but now she knows who she was meant to be. This first verse is incredibly powerful, as it speaks about the struggle that the artist had to go through to break free of the figurative chains that were holding her down. She could not breathe due to the constraints imposed upon her, and it is only now that she can see the path ahead of her.

The second verse of the song continues the theme of breaking free and coming home. The artist heard a voice calling her back home, and she looked back to see where it was coming from. She may be blind, but she was taught by the voice of a lion. The metaphor of the lion is powerful, as it represents strength, courage, and fearlessness. With the voice of a lion to guide her, the artist is empowered to make her way back home.

The chorus of the song further emphasizes the power of the lion as a guiding force, while the bridge speaks of the artist's desire for revenge against those who have wronged her. Overall, "Lionheart" is a powerful song about breaking free from the restrictions imposed upon us and finding the courage to pursue our dreams.
