Mouskouri Nana Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here's to you, Nicola and Bart
Rest forever here in our hearts
The last and final moment is yours
That agony is your triumph

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nana Mouskouri's song "Here's to You" pay tribute to two individuals, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. Sacco and Vanzetti were two Italian immigrants who were wrongfully convicted and executed for the murder of two men during a robbery in Massachusetts in 1927. Their trial was controversial and is widely believed to have been influenced by anti-immigrant and anti-anarchist sentiment. Many people, including Nana Mouskouri, believe that Sacco and Vanzetti were innocent and unfairly sentenced to death.

"Here's to you, Nicola and Bart, rest forever here in our hearts" expresses the sorrow and respect that many people continue to hold for Sacco and Vanzetti, even decades after their execution. The last two lines, "The last and final moment is yours, that agony is your triumph," suggest that despite their unjust deaths, Sacco and Vanzetti were able to maintain their dignity and honor in the face of persecution and injustice.

Overall, "Here's to You" is a powerful tribute to two men who were unfairly condemned by the American justice system. It is a reminder of the ways in which systemic prejudice and discrimination can harm innocent people and of the importance of supporting justice and equality for all.

@Nomifan
