The band formed in 2003 with the lineup of Jason Watkins, Gregory Lahm, Dave Mann, Alex Vernon and Derik Sommer.
They released their first album Time & Withering in 2004 to positive reviews.
Soon after the band released a split with label mates Kenoma in 2006, their second album The Ties That Blind was released in August, and featured Brent Hinds of Mastodon on guest vocals on one track. To support The Ties That Blind, the band toured extensively around the United States, first with These Arms Are Snakes in late 2006, then with 400 Blows and Unsane in May and June of 2007.
Their latest album, Quietly, was recorded after Lahm in turn left the band, with Vernon returning alongside newcomer Steve Brooks to jointly handle guitars and vocals, with Kevin Schindel providing bass. Soon after the release of the album by Translation Loss Records, Vernon left yet again, with Schindel filling the guitar void.

Carry On
Mouth of the Architect Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The aches of time
To find the will to
Carry on
Stretch my skin
Across the sky
Let the light
In the song "Carry On" by Mouth of the Architect, the lyrics depict a journey of perseverance and resilience. The opening line "Our hands withstood the aches of time" speaks to the idea of survival and enduring through struggles. The singer of the song has faced hardship but has managed to find the strength within themselves to "carry on". This line may also represent the physical work that has been put in over time to reach a certain level of accomplishment.
The second verse "Stretch my skin across the sky / Let the light bleed through me" creates a vivid image of transcendence - the idea of expanding beyond one's limits and embracing a larger sense of existence. The act of 'stretching' one's skin seems almost impossible, but the singer is still willing to do so. This metaphor asks the listener to picture themselves in a similar situation and to imagine what it would mean to break free from limitations and see things from a different perspective. The line "Let the light bleed through me" indicates an openness to new experiences and a willingness to let go of past traumas.

Our hands withstood
We persevered through the hardships we faced
The aches of time
The burden of passing years
To find the will to
To discover the motivation and determination to
Carry on
Continue with our journey despite the obstacles
Stretch my skin
Extend my being
Across the sky
Into the expanse above us
Let the light
Allow the brightness and radiance
Bleed through me
To flow through me, illuminating the world around me
