Shooting Star
Moxie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was driving on the highway
In a deep dark night
Getting faster and faster
Without looking back

I left my friends behind me
And all the things that I had
There was really no other way out
I've no regret

I drank a lot and at this point
My mind was blown away
Tears were rolling down my face
But drying so fast

Forget the one I was
Forgive the words I said
Forget this awful night
Forget it, it's all I can say

My head in the wind I can feel
The sweetness of the air
A cool breeze on my skin
That makes me feel so good

Forget the one I was
Forgive the words I said

Forget this awful night
Forget it, it's all I can say

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Moxie's song "Shooting Star" paint a picture of a person who is driving on the highway at night, leaving everything they know behind. They are getting faster and faster, without looking back. The singer is leaving their friends and their past behind, but is resolute in their decision and has no regret.

The lyrics suggest that the person has been drinking heavily, and is possibly struggling with some sort of personal issue or emotional pain, as tears are rolling down their face. However, in the midst of this turmoil, the singer is able to find solace in the simplicity of the present moment: feeling the cool breeze on their skin and the sweetness of the air.

Throughout the song, the singer repeats the phrase "Forget the one I was, forgive the words I said, forget this awful night, forget it, it's all I can say." It seems that the person is trying to leave behind their mistakes and past, and move forward with a clean slate.

Overall, the lyrics to "Shooting Star" capture a sense of longing for change and renewal, while also acknowledging the pain and difficulties that come with letting go of the past.

It’s very realistic when the girl went to the principal to complain about one of the students harassing her. They never do anything. They dismiss it as “bothering” because he’s a student with ‘good reputation.’ I’ve seen it happen in my uni, and it’s disgusting.

@SEGASister

I find it sad that the only time they finally decide to do something about it is when a girl (a white girl compared to the black Latina girl reporting to the principal for harassment) straight-up confesses that this rodent of a student sexually assaulted her.

@SEGASister ooh. Didn’t notice that. 😬

@THEINVISIBLEWARRIORR

I am a man and when I was a boy a group of girls would scratch me and even cut me with scissors, they would trash my stuff and the teachers, principal of the school wouldn’t do anything either. I’ve known plenty of other dudes that faced similar problems, it is a bully thing, not a gender thing
