Home Alone
Mr.White Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This light that shines on me tonight
Turns on when you wander through my door
And your friends won't see you to the end, I'm sure
But you love them anyhow

Lost feelings of love
Lost feelings of love
That hover above me
Lost feelings of love
Lost feelings of love
That hover above me

The ghost that visit me the most, drop by
Cause they know they can find me here
And they claim to be held from me in chains, but come on
They're guilty as sin my dear

I'm becoming a ghost
Becoming a ghost
So nobody can know me
I'm becoming a ghost
Becoming a ghost
So nobody can know me

These stones that are thrown against my bones, break through
But they hurt less as times goes on
And though alone, I build my own home, to be sure
That nobody can touch me now
Yeah

All alone in my home
Alone in my home
Nobody can touch me
All alone in my home

Alone in my home
Nobody can touch me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Mr. White's song "Home Alone" touch on the themes of love, isolation, and self-preservation. In the first verse, the singer describes how the presence of a loved one brings a light into their life, but acknowledges that this love may not be everlasting as the friends of the loved one may not stick around. The chorus, "Lost feelings of love, that hover above me", suggests that the singer is grappling with feelings of loneliness and heartbreak even with their loved one in their life.

The second verse of the song speaks to the metaphorical ghosts that visit the singer, guilt-ridden and chained, but the singer sees through their façade, recognizing that they are not truly here to haunt him. The chorus shifts to "I'm becoming a ghost, so nobody can know me", indicating that the singer is putting up walls to protect themselves from future heartbreak and feeling disconnected from the world around them. The final verse speaks to the singer's resilience and ability to cope with pain and loneliness, "All alone in my home, nobody can touch me now."

Overall, "Home Alone" is a poignant expression of the struggles that come with relationships and the fear of being vulnerable, yet finding a way to navigate those feelings of isolation and protect oneself.

The way he denies “smooching with my brother” just makes it looks like he actually did which makes it much funnier for me

@robertdubs9466

Well, don't forget he did have that seemingly embarrassing encounter with what he thought was Kevin's father singing 'Cool Jerk' in the shower and then threatening him with a slapping, the previous evening. He probably thinks Johnny is the brother of Kevin's father, and is referring to that.

@TMNation

Even funnier was when he said you’ve been kissing Cliff and Cliff is bewildered 😂💀💀

@80sDude990

It’s incredible how the hotel room events of the consecutive days link to each other. Rather convenient how the room Kevin was in had a partition wall, enabling him to trick the concierge with the clown dancing behind the shower curtain to Cool Jerk and with Uncle Frank’s recorded voice on his first night, then he was able to trick the same man, Cedric, the desk clerk, Cliff and the security guard with thinking that Johnny was talking to them partly about what had happened the previous day, up until carrying out his threat to open fire.

@matthewcardoza1190

@@robertdubs9466 the song is actually “Cougar;” that’s why it has the verses “cool cat” and “heaviest cat”.

But other than that, nice job!
