Mr. Belvedere Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of “Theme” by Mr. Belvedere appear to be about someone who is experiencing a significant amount of stress and strain on their relationships and life, and they want to detach themselves from such stress. The lyrics suggest that the individual wants to burn all bridges behind them, but they don’t have the time to do so. The singer, in this case, wants to relax and beat around the bush for hours, but they’re not having fun doing so. They are asking the other person to think about all the bad things, pick at random, and complain for days, but he doesn’t think that they will do so. Instead, he proposes that they forget about all this and be happy for a few days.

The singer advises the other person to detach himself from the situation and listen to his worries about nothing but the choice. He emphasizes the desire to burn everything and destroy the universe, but he doesn’t have the time for it. Instead, he suggests taking the cat out of the bag, relaxing and enjoying themselves because he doesn't think they will do it again. The phrase "Save me, come save me" at the end is a cry of desperation for help. The lyrics overall seem to be conveying a message of wanting to let go of the negative things in life and enjoy what life has to offer before it's too late.

Yup.. it was... if you look back at their sitcom lineup during this season, it was monstrous (Growing Pains, Head of the Class, Who's the Boss, Wonder Years, Roseanne, Perfect Strangers, Belvedere, Full House, Family Matters, Just the Ten of Us, Coach, Doogie Howser)... all if them were awesome shows and most had long runs... You'll never see a lineup like this one ever again... :)

@russs7574

And that's not even counting what NBC was airing that season....Cheers, Seinfeld, ALF, Golden Girls, Night Court, The Cosby Show (yes, I know...but the show was still great) and Wings. That decade from the mid 80's to mid 90's was a golden age for sitcoms.

I love this show; brings back a lot of my beautiful childhood memories. I'm glad Antenna T.V. and METV brings back the classic shows to us 24/7.
