Yet it never happened in the leafy suburb of the only White school that would accept a Black child like me back in the 80’s. We will never forget. We can never forget. My dad, arrested at age 17 for not having his pass. My mother, shot while marching peacefully to support the youth.

So many "I am a Good Black Woman", who led from the front when their men and sons were thrown behind bars. Left with bringing up their offspring, still they were not deterred. Stoned, shot at, kicked and raped. And even behind those bars they remained resolute. Today's narrative gives praise to the men, Mandelas Tambos and Sisulus. You hardly hear of the contributions of Maxeke, Ngoyi or Madikizela-Mandela (unless if she is in the news). Sadly in this song too, no women. But the imagery is POWERFUL and forces you to reckon with the Power of a Black Woman.

Ironically, the women are in their majority but including the ANC WOMEN 'S LEAGUE always endorse a man to lead 26yrs later into democracy. Our women have to realize that democratic powers lie in numbers of which they have. As it stands, the current women are more of soft sponges than rocks (IMBOKODO). Money & instant pleasures for them far supercede matters of solid principles and progressive vision.
The conclusion of it all is that they fail the Matyrs who have set the good standards.
