Bob Gale said that he wanted promotion for Part III. He found a news reporter that agreed to interview Christopher Lloyd.

Well when Gale found out how the interview went, basically the reporter said Lloyd didn’t really say anything.

He’s incredibly shy and doesn’t talk much outside of on stage or on screen.

It’s incredible to think such a shy man is such a great dramatic actor. The way he screams, backs up, runs away like he’s trapped, slams himself up against the garage door….not only is it a great performance, but it all is coming from someone who is shy in real life!

@Beyond Reality When you talk about the term "mad scientist," they don't mean "mad" like he's angry; they mean mad like he's crazy.

Speaking in terms of this franchise, though, it can be either definition when you get right down to it. The most textbook example is Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen; who's nickname was more-so because of his hot temper, but he was also crazy, too.

On October 21, 2015, one of the movie theaters near my home played the whole trilogy starting at 4:30 PM (one minute after Doc, Marty, and Jennifer were supposed to arrive in the future). My dad picked me up after school and we drove straight there. He even picked me up a Marty McFly outfit to wear. There were a few other people in line for the movie who were also wearing costumes. Someone saw the 80s jacket I was wearing and decided to make the lifeguard joke from this movie. The people there loved how I had my jean pockets inside out since all the kids in 2015 wore them like that. And when Doc said "Next Saturday night, we're sending you back to the future!" everyone in the theater cheered. It was such a great experience to be in a theater with other pop culture nerds who love this movie like me.

I can't remember whether we did it on the exact right date, but I held a viewing party for the doctoral students at my PhD school in Germany where we marathon watched the entire trilogy in a lecture theatre. It was awesome :D

I think in the original script they had a scenario with Doc and Marty raiding a local lab or Air Force Base for the plutonium or something like that. They changed it to the lightning bolt for budget reasons. I don't think the original idea would have been anywhere near as good onscreen.

@Safat Sadman Both Edison and Tesla could have resolved this problem relatively easily - this isn't a question of distributing power over long distances regarding AC and DC. The problem is cost - the size of the Capacitor bank, Power regulator, PSU, etc. The movie isn't very specific with the Power requirement - "1.21 gigawatts" as any Engineer will tell you, means nothing without a time factor, discharge rate, power quality, etc - but as the movie demonstrates, it's 1.21 gigawatts in a fraction of a second and the Delorean is apparently built to handle that serious spike in energy. It's clear that's far too much energy for a battery bank to be mounted in the Delorean itself using 80s acid batteries, so the Power supply will simply take the place of the "Lightning bolt" and the setup should remain the same - although whether their fantasy setup is actually realistic for transmitting that amount of current and voltage still requires a suspension of disbelief.

Again, both Edison and Tesla wouldn't have a problem solving this, given 80s technology - and conceivably Dr Brown should have been able to figure it out.

It WOULD be expensive, but not outside the means of an obsessive upper-middle class American in the 80s.

Apparently they were originally going to use a nuclear explosion for the power, but due to budget constraints placed on them they realized they could reuse the hill valley set + electricity from a lightning bolt. Makes the film that much more, mwah!

It's funny that our great leaps in technology are so quickly replaced in today's ages. As soon as we make something new and affordable we are already looking on how to improve it until perfect then throw it out and then completely replace it with a new technology in it's early stages. I think this is genius because 1.21 is such a small number, and so it makes 1.21 gigawatts sound pretty underwhelming, unimpressive, when you don't really know what it signifies. And precisely for that reason, it creates a much, much more dramatic effect when Doc totally freaks out about it. I mean, if they had shoved it in your face by saying "ONE BILLION TWO HUNDRED AND TEN MILLION WATTS, WOW!", then you would have felt right from the start that it was a big deal, and A scene like this would never have worked the way this one works.

I have a theory that when Marty was in 1955 he somehow stopped Jennifer's mom or dad from meeting the same man or woman they did in the original timeline and they met someone else. So Jen would've gotten some of her same genes from one side of her family but different genes from the other man or woman. Perhaps that's the in-universe reason she looks different.
