But is questioning yourself not the very expression of your identity?
Straightness or gayness (etc.) which was purely rigid (and not reflexively doubtful) would encounter itself at the edges of its image (what is a man/woman?) and... would either, fall apart or become psychotically delusional?
Lets say you encounter an example that doesnt quite fit the logic in your head, lets take a common (and contentious) example of a cishetero encounter with an androgynous non-binary person: What is their reaction? They see their reaction and have to come to some form of solution to explain it and their new relationship to the person:
Either that person is a man or a woman and they are wrong in some way, or your identity has to change slightly to accomodate them and start deconstructing your own identity in an attempt to reassert it, you would have to say "I like x feature but not y because its z", or would go "i must not be straight/gay?" which would lead to all sorts of new self doubts (was i ever really x? why did i act the way i was?)
If it was totally rigid, however, and there was no self doubt/reflection, either you would:
Steamroll into them and start assigning the internal logic of your sexuality to an external real (which is psychotic, as the real is precisely that which cannot be symbolised), or your identity would just stop meaning anything and youd spiral into extreme anxiety (which may also be psychotic, or may lead to an entirely new identity with a different function).
